It just takes leaping ability. I'm more into fundamentals anyway.

Yeah, I think body control and coordination go hand in hand.

I guess athleticism doesn't count if it's flashy.

NBA players are ballers who happen to be athletic. These street amateur dunkers are straight athletes who just happen to play basketball. With the right guidance and a pretty good work ethic there's no reason why some of these guys can't make it in the nba. Granted there are various reasons lacking fundamentals, playing organized team ball, tweener size for position, or poor attitude whatever...the fact that steve nash not only made it to the nba, but is a premier player goes to show that these street ballers didn't even come close to maximizing their full physical talent, athletic capablities.

That dunk @ 1:21 just confused the crap outta me. First time I've ever seen that dunk. The first dunk in the video (under both legs with like a 180 or something) is also ridiculous.

I am 5'10'' - 5'11'', and athletic.. was on the basketball and track team in HS and went to the state championship for the 400m... my junior/senior year I was 148-156lbs and could squat 320-360lbs but I could never dunk.

palming the ball helps too, my first dunks were twohanded for that reason before I learned to
dunk it using one hand only a bit like Brent Barry did.

And dunking requires some coordination tbh, you have to learn the move, and not lose much height when jumping with the ball it requires some attempts before you become any good at it.

Common misconception:

You do NOT need to palm the ball to dunk. If you can't dunk, it's a matter of you not jumping high enough, not hand size. At least, that's my theory.
