Report: Pacquiao to watch Kobe and co., ready to treat players
Jaemark Tordecilla · Friday, July 22, 2011 · 4:50 pm · View Comments

AFP / Jay Directo

NBN Sports broadcaster Snow Badua is reporting on Twitter that Manny Pacquiao will be taking in Sunday’s game between the SMART All-Stars, featuring Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, and other NBA stars, against the SMART Gilas-Pilipinas national team, captained by the pound-for-pound king’s buddy Chris Tiu. Pacquiao had wanted to also watch Kobe and company against the all-star PBA selection, but previous commitments prevented him from doing so.

Apparently, even a national icon like Pacquiao had trouble getting tickets to the event, according to Badua. While he received four complimentary seats, Pacquiao was unable to buy more tickets, which he would have given to family and friends.

Even so, Pacquiao is ready to treat the NBA stars to dinner, or a short vacation, should they ask for it.

Pacquiao is a hardcore basketball fan who bankrolls his own semi-pro team, for which he plays occasionally. He’ll probably have some explaining to do when he comes face-to-face with Bryant, against whom he cheered in the 2008 NBA finals. Pacquiao is a fan of the Boston Celtics, arch-enemy of Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers.

Hoop heaven begins tonight in Manila; Kobe, Rose, Durant, Paul face PBA selection

MANILA — For one memorable weekend, the Philippines will be the center of the basketball universe, if only for the stars that will converge at the Araneta Coliseum starting tonight [Saturday].

Kobe Bryant. Chris Paul. Kevin Durant. Derrick Rose.

Even in the NBA, where these basketball gods strut their stuff, the only time these four share the court for a basketball game is during the All-Star game—and even then, not as teammates.

Not even Team USA has gathered this four stars as teammates. Bryant and Paul played for the Beijing Olympics “Redeem Team” while Durant and Rose were stalwarts of the gold-winning United States squad in the World Championship.

Tonight, they will play together, in the first of a pair of charity matches. And fittingly, they will do so before some of the most passionate hoop junkies in the world.

With President Aquino expected at courtside, the four stars lead a nine-man squad of NBA standouts which Bryant, the five-time champion, acting as playing-coach in a game against a selection from the PBA tonight.

Game time—some say basketball heaven —is 7 p.m.

Ok, 730am it is. Will it be broadcasted on tv or will I have to watch an online feed? Sorry if answers already been posted.

edit: duh, nevermind, its right above. Good look. I'm concerned about the amount of traffic that will be on the site and that it will lag/stop though.

The NBA players themselves do need to eat their balut after the game too. I am pretty sure the pretty local celebrities will line-up for the players after-game fix :D (Apparently, the gross-looking thingy called balut has the same effect as say, 5 Red Bulls.)

lol. I have only eaten the yoke of balut, maybe i should try the bird.

I eat that and the hard white part. I used to be able to eat the duck when I was a kid, but I can`t do it anymore.

Time now in Manila is 1:30 p.m. With game time set at 7PM, a 2 hour buffer would have been enough (traffic, queue, etc..) however, the president of the Philippines is supposed to be attending tonight's game.

This means double the traffic and queue :D

The game is going to be on like 5-6 hours from now? 3am-4am pacific time? 6am-7am eastern time? Is this correct?

Exact time is 3:26 p.m.. It's at 7 p.m. so yeah, that's about right (3 hours and change till tipoff) on the way to the venue now.

That would be a cock slap to Kings fans if Evans ever considered LA.

It was close between Rose and Kobe but I think Rose got the loudest ovation. They were screaming MVP! MVP!

Derek Fisher out there looking flabby and sick. I can see McGee embarrassing himself repeatedly.
Just a must-watch army of possessed ass-kickers laying the smack down night after night after night. People are gonna hate playing the Bulls this year.
