holy crap, RealGM is dumb.

jersey retired =/= HOF.

Bill Laimbeer, Malik Sealy, Dan Majerle, Vlade Divac, Jeff Hornacek, and Avery Johnson say hi.

it's about what the player meant to the TEAM, not the NBA.

Bowen instilled a culture of defense and self-accountability of role players. Hated around the league, but respected by the most respectable scorers. People who thought he was was dirty, whatever. He changed everything for us. Consistency, passion, and hard-nosed tenacity. The Spurs title teams would be nothing defensively without him. We wouldn't have won jack. Zero titles in the 2000's.

Congrats Bruce, and thanks for everything.

the only thing more annoying than Bruce Bowen deliberately trying to injure people is internet dweebs who feel the need to be different and cool and act like he is being "hated on" and he was some great player. lol relax hipsters, he was a douche.

I went to a Spurs game where Bowen outscored Kobe, during KoME's first year without Shaq, it was dope. Bowen also outscored Kobe again a little bit before the Gasol trade. Kwame Brown scored more points than Duncan that game, too.

D Nice wrote:Amazing to me like a punk like Bell who talks 100x bigger than he is and actually DOES intentionally try and hurt players is popular here but Bowen, who was legitimately elite at what he did, is just a step above the devil.

I too would love to see an actual list of how many players Bowen has legitimately "injured" over the years. :lol:

Guy was a winner, the ultimate role-player type deal. After Pop, Tim, Manu, and Tony, he was the most important Spur of the decade hands down.

I cosign with everything you said and let me explain why they treat them differently.

bowen = winner
bell = loser

realgm hates winners as I said early. If bell had won a couple of rings he'd be hated too. That's how it works here.

one good example of this is Garnett... He was loved until he went to the stacked Cs team and won. Now everyone hates him.

Are you a Spurs fan? Do you know what he meant to the team and the fans? If being grateful for the guy that helped won 3 championships is being hip and cool, then fine. I'm an indie folk guy anyway.

If Bowen can get his jersey retired for hurting people, Bynum will be a lock for HOF then.

interesting. i look at somebody like fisher who was an ultimate role player, like bowen, who endeared himself to the organization and his teammates, was an ambassador to the game, etc. and theres just no way he gets his jersey retired by the lakers. different organizations have different standards.

Fisher hit some big shots and ran his team well.

Bowen changed his team's culture for nearly a decade.

People are still crying?

You people need to form your own opinions instead of listening to the media/what Wince Carter says. Of all the "evidence" provided above, only ONE player actually sustained an injury because of Bowen, and that was Carter once. Everyone else either got back up or continued playing. Damn man, if Bill Laimbeer played today one of you nutjobs would have assassinated him by now. :lol:

And as a Spurs fan, he DEFINITELY deserves it. The only people questioning this are, ironically, non-Spurs fans, because none of you know exactly what he brought to our team. He was an iron man, started almost every game he played for us and only missed a couple games his entire time in San Antonio, never complained, always played his ass off, and accepted his role. Numerous All-Defense selections and 3 NBA championships as one of the keystones to the Spurs' legendary defense...yeah, he deserves to have his jersey hung up. Suck on it, haters.

And all of you clowns who don't know anything about Bowen personally and take your opinions from people on here/the media...Bruce Bowen is a class act in real life. Dude was taking college courses while playing ball, he's been great in the community and has always been very friendly and approachable in San Antonio. Off the court he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

so i guess "form your own opinions" means "agree with me" because all the actual evidence shows he intentionally tries to injure people. derp

Despite never injuring anyone besides Vince one time. Derp.

I'm sure you just started watching basketball very recently, so it's okay young one. You'll learn to form your own opinions one day.

This would be the equivalent of the Lakers retiring Derek Fisher's jersey.

srs?

Led by example that playing effortful defense gets you minutes. He pretty much injected team defense into the franchise when it was running thin in 2002

Improving his 3 point shooting to best in the league % wise, which made 4-down all the more lethal

The prime example of a role player being fearless in the clutch. That extends even to the Spurs of today

Showed the importance of helping out in the community, having character off the court

Bruce's influence is still heavily infused in the franchise today, 3 years after his retirement
