TOTALLY agree. Durant is really the only one deserving to win the scoring title because he didn't play in a meaningless game where the seedings were already all locked up.

I know you were being sarcastic, but Durant is the only one deserving to win the scoring title because he takes FOUR LESS SHOTS TO SCORE MORE POINTS

Kobe has 2 scoring titles in 15 seasons.

He was never won scoring titles at will.

Not that it matters...

But Kobe has taken about 40 more shots than Durant this season, yet Durant still has about 250 more total points

Scoring titles and all time scoring titles are freaking jokes anyways.

I mean all-time titles are just about longevity and taking a lot of shots when you shoot at a decent %.

Season scoring titles are a tad more impressive but still some of the weaker of the awards if you ask me.

How do you any of you feel about the scoring title being based on total points instead and not ppg?

The same way Jordan is less deserving of the scoring title in 97-98 because he took... *gasp*... FOUR LESS SHOTS than Shaq? Or does that criteria only apply to Kobe?

Yeah yeah I know the comparison is different, and Jordan is the GOAT bla bla bla all of which I agree 100%... but this is Kobe in his 16th season. Why can't we just appreciate good basketball?

Fail.

If Kobe goes for it, he's obviously GOAT just improving his legacy.

Even if he doesn't go for it, he already improved his legacy by just being this close to winning the scoring title. Being this close to the scoring title improves anyone's resume, but even more for someone in his 16th season with the injuries he had this season, having a new system, having a new coach, having 2 close teammates(one being the current 6th man of the year winner) traded, and leading his team to a division title. Legendary. But if he does somehow win it, even more legendary.

If Kobe plays basketball and doesn't get, he doesn't want to show off.

See above.

If Kobe doesn't go for it, he doesn't care about the title hes already GOAT.

If Kobe cared that much for the scoring title...

a) he wouldn't have taken only 12 shots against the Spurs the other day even though he was hot shooting at 58% from the field that game

Kobe's quote about winning the scoring title:

“It's not very important, San Antonio was playing me single coverage yesterday, if it was important I would have gone for 50 yesterday. You guys now know I can get it. I’m not really tripping about it.”

b) he wouldn't have came back from his shin injury as early as he did since he already was the highest scorer with less than 3-4 games left. Also even if Kobe did manage to drop to second in PPG, Lakers had one game left after OKC's last game so Kobe could have came back then and scored however many amount of points needed to win the scoring title.

For Kobe as usual, Rings > Regular season awards.

As usual, you fail.

kobe should start and shake off rust, once that is complete he should rest and avoid any freak injuries that can occur. Kobe is a 16 year vet I think we should expect more from him than chucking for a scoring title. He is an all time great and I hope he can show more respect for the game of basketball than that.

Again,

Kobe tries not to miss "meaningless" games that wont improve standings or games that "he doesn't have to play" because as he said in the past(and also showed in the past by not missing out on games like this), he plays every game that he can because fans bought tickets to see him.

btw, playing the game to get his legs back after missing 8 games recently in a season that you rarely have practice time is another reason for Kobe to play, especially when the playoffs are this close.

no problem with that but hopefully he doesn't chuck for a scoring title. He is an all time great he should show the game more respect than that. To be fair though we'll have to wait and see what he does tomorrow.

I'm not saying start now but whether or not it's a better determinant? When you have players who take time off for injuries or what not their ppg stays untill whenever they come back as opposed to players who have played more games. Essentially if you're injured it just means that you're not scoring points, so playrers who've played the entire season can be penalized.

Kobe won't play long enough to get it, in fact I'll be surprised if he played at all. It's bigger fish to fry now.......screw a scoring titles. Last time I looked you didn't get sh*t for that.
