This to me was the funniest part of the article:

Humphries' agent, Dan Fegan, is still trying to convince Humphries to settle for a deal that will be guaranteed for just one year. Fegan also represents Howard. The Bobcats have more salary-cap space than the Cavs and would not be opposed to a multiyear deal for Humphries, a source told Bucher.

Humphries should have fired his agent on the spot for conflict of interest. Fegan knows his payday will grow if he can get Dwight to Brooklyn, and he is basically just using Humphries as a pawn to make it happen. That's F'ed up.

Yes, I think Atlanta should go for the home run like the Falcons did with Juilo Jones and Mike Vick.

why would the Hawks do that? we would just take Howard.

Completely agree. How he didn't get an MLE-type offer over multiple years...

IMO straight deal between Hawks and Magic makes most sense if Atl. can convince Howard to become the home-town hero and join his HS buddy Josh Smith.

IMO Horford/Zaza/1st rd. for Howard/Turk gets it done. They get an all-star prime 20/10 guy on a reasonable deal, cap relief for a top-3 crappiest contract in NBA, and a pick.

Teague Harris Farmar
Morrow Jenkins
Turk Stevenson
Smith
Howard

.. with a log-jam at PG, so flip Harris or Farmar for a backup big.. wait until Turk is expiring year to move for a new SF. That becomes the most intimidating defensive front-line in the NBA, with plenty 3P shooters and PGs to feed the post.

I think Farmar is getting brought out after the trade is completed. So that money goes back to Atlanta again.

Bynum might be easier to resign than Dwight.

The Orlando Magic have re-opened negotiations with teams other than the Brooklyn Nets for Dwight Howard, a league source told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

The Atlanta Hawks are one of the teams but "not the best option," the source said

This trade makes too much sense for all involved not to get done. Atlanta trades Horford/Teague and two picks (the Rockets pick we got from the Joe Johnson trade and our first rounder this year) and Orlando trades Dwight. Atlanta gets a hometown kid playing for his hometown team with his best friend since childhood and the cap space to still sign another max free agent next offseason. Orlando gets the best non rookie contract in the NBA in Horford, another starter in Teague and two picks to start rebuilding. You don't have to worry about Horford not signing an extension and his contract is a flat salary for I believe another four years.

It literally is a win/win for all involved. Even Dwight wins by playing in his hometown with his best friend and the chance to lure CP3 in the summer to form his own Big 3 built around him just like he wants to do.

@dtown8

I understand you but this team is about to lose their best player in Josh and doing something like would make him resigned with this team. In fact, he can signed for 4 years and Dwight can do 5 years if he trade.

If Josh can get Dwight to sign the extension before the trade happens, then fine, do it. Josh has Dwight's cell number, it shouldn't be too hard

Actually, if you want Dwight get the 5 year deal, then dont do the extension. The extension is only good for four years, Plus with Howard bird rights, if he want more money then he comes here and if doesnt then he will leave but Hawks will still have alot of cap room.

The Hawks deal is better than the Bynum deal. Only problem is if ORL has the guts to engage in a trade of such large caliber within their division.

it doesn't matter, you can always have an agreement like what Chris Paul did with the Clippers last year. if Josh can get that from Dwight, then fine, do it.

This trade makes a lot more sense than any of the Nets scenarios I was seeing. I couldn't for the life of me see what Orlando was really gaining by trading him to Brooklyn.

I think the real contenders for Dwight are Atlanta and Houston

Why is this news?
Orlando has been talking to LA, BK, Houston, Dallas and Atlanta for weeks, it's been reported. And this article was written last night, or years ago in internet time.

But yeah.. Atlanta should go for it. They have nothing to lose.

Horford, Teague, Pachullia, Picks
for
Dwight, J.Rich, Dubon

Harris / Duhon
J.Rich / Morrow
Stevenson
J.Smith
Howard

Could make some noise this year.. but even more next if Howard and Smith stick around with the cap space Atlanta will have.
