they BLACKMAILED HIM! They threatened him and his family with the possibility that they would trade him for a TWO MONTH period before he became a Free Agent. I mean, cmn...its almost like they kidnapped his children and threatened to harm them if he didn't resign.

None of us know yet, but there were reports earlier this month that the Union was considering pursuing legal action on Dwight's behalf. We'll see soon enough. Obviously there must be something substantial we don't know yet if the Union were considering getting involved.

theyre just idle threats, the same idle threat came about when stern vetoed the CP3 trade the first time around

id imagine there's nothing to argue about because the players can't pull **** like that

Guys with tablets posting on RealGM - Why don't you disable that lame signature? You paid Kindle for the product, but they're shamelessly forcing you to market it for them as well...

No there were not any reports that the Union would consider pursuing legal action. On the contrary they let Dwight know rather quickly that he didn't have a case and that he's silly as all outdoors for even thinking he did. Orlando "blackmailed" him by threatening to trade him to one of the most successful franchises in sports history? Yeah ok...poor Dwight : (

It's atleast a week old. I heard Broussard mention it on Sportscenter one morning. He said that apparently the magic made some promises if he opted in, and they didn't fulfill them.

I think probably Otis made him some promises, and then he got Otis fired. So those promises went away with Otis.

That's a completely different situation that involved all the owners in the NBA

I watched Harvey Dent say this on sports centre this morning and I laughed!

Why do people believe this guy? For the past 2 weeks everyday he said the nets and magic had a deal and it would be finalized that day hahaha

Come on guys don't listen to everything you hear

Verbal agreements are binding, but I'd love to know who was present when these "promises" were allegedly made to Howard. If Otis made these promises to him, how are they enforceable if Otis is no longer employed by the Magic? Howard should have manned up and played out the year with LA or Houston or wherever they were going to trade him and signed with Brooklyn as a free agent. He tried to "pull a Carmelo" and dictate where he was going to go and get all his money, but in the end he panicked and now has himself to blame for this mess.

I would like to think something else is going on here. And would love it if Dwight not only wrecked two seasons for Orl but ratted them out about some illegal agreements so they woudnt get any picks for 4-5 years.

Didnt his agent QUIT when he signed the extension? You think he leaves prank "I told you so" msgs every night? If not, he should.

theyre binding, but are they "legally" binding?

i understand that theyre binding because there would be repercussions in the way agents will steer their players away from these franchises because of broken promises etc, but im fairly sure these verbal agreements are not legally binding unless its in writing

I use to wonder how Harvey still has a job with the crapfest he reports on a consistent basis. Then I realized, that's probably his job and he gets paid to be completely wrong.
