Noah is my favorite bull, but if I take off my homer hat for a second, I would have kept Asik and traded Noah in the next couple years (before his contract ballooned in the 3rd year). They'd be able to include Noah in any future blockbuster deal and they wouldn't lose anything on the defensive side of the ball (remember bulls refusing to include Noah in a Melo deal) while the star offensive player would have more than made up for Noah's offensive impact (which isn't great to begin with). Now we can't trade Noah because he'd be very difficult to replace at the center position (not the case if Asik was around) and our chances of getting that 2nd star to pair with Rose has diminished without gutting the entire team.

This shares my sentiments. If a player on our team was a Heat killer, it was Asik. We let our soon-to-be third year defensive beast inside walk for nothing. With Noah (who i'd hate to see go), we could possibly get a great secondary scoring option..... maybe M Ellis type player with the right trade. Noah's contract rocks though.....

Damn, I miss Omer. I actually miss John Lucas too. Instant offense.

^^^

agreed. I was a big JLIII fan, even with the Nuggets game missed free throws.

I wanted the Bulls to try him out so badly, so when they finally added him to the roster, I was thrilled. John lucas and Acie Law are very overlooked scorers (Maybe Acie is a has-been now, unfortunately. Sad, with starter minutes he's awesome)

As some people here have said already Asik is a great defender and a horrible player on offense. He has some of the worst hands I've ever seen and he actually isn't that good at going up strong once he catches the ball either. Now I'm not saying he can't improve on those things, but as of now he is definitely nowhere near Noah considering both sides of the court. If he were you'd think a Top 5 coach in the league who puts much emphasis on defense, which is obviously Asik's strength, such as Tom would have played him more than 15min a game (compared to Noah's 30).

That's not to say that he hasn't a lot of value. I actually loved him as a Bull and IMO he is one of the best defensive big men in the league, but I never understood the other Bulls fans (not that many) who'd rather have him than Noah.

I'd agree with most of the Bulls fans' sentiments that Asik is an elite defensive center with exceptionally good help defense awareness and surprisingly quick lateral movement. In that regard only Taj probably was his equal on the Bulls roster. But he's really, really limited on offense. He never really showed anything except a dunk, and he has the annoying tendency (which many players admittedly have) of gathering before he attempts a shot, which results in the ball being slapped away way more often than it should for a seven-foot dude. He's also a Ben Wallace-level of bad when it comes to shooting free throws. Noah may not have the prettiest shot, but on offense he's at least got a good free throw percentage and he's quite a good passer for a big man, along with being a great offensive rebounder. He's got a lot more in the holster when it comes to offense, and for that reason while I'm sad the Bulls let Asik go, I'm not surprised, particularly given the back-loaded nature of the contract. To me the biggest culprit is the CBA's loophole that allow the Rockets to average the cap hit despite actually signing him to a wildly uneven contract.

A big part of that was due to the fact that Noah was making 12 mil a year and Omer was on a rookie deal. Every player looks better if they are on a good contract.

Underrated pickup this off season.
Looking for a new signature. Currently, still evaluating.

Monster rebounder. Big inside presence. He would've had a double double if he could make a layup.

Depends on how many times you give him the ball. He can generate 3 offensive rebounds off of one finish attempt.

Sorry, but some of you guys are in for a rude awakening. The fact of the matter is that we're talking about a guy who averaged 3 and 5 last season.

Gortat averaged 4-4 in Orlando...And then was one of the best offensive centers in the league in Phoenix. Asik has been an awesome defensive player when he's played and just hasn't had opportunity (similar to how Gortat lacked opportunity as well)
