New Orleans Voodoo would be a sick name.

Swamp Dogs lmfao. Sounds like Jerome Williams' brother.

Swamp Dogs reminds me of Waterboy, and thus reinforces derisive yet humorous stereotypes of Louisiana coonasses. So I vote for it. :D

Are they serious? If they want a name change then change it to the New Orleans Voodoo. Much better than the other names choices they came up with IMO.

That would be a huge offense to all the Christian NBA fans imo.

I agree with the poster that suggested the Bayou Rougarou...it has a nice ring to it.

Who knows who will take their talents to the Bayou this fall....

Did they choose the other 4 so that the Pelicans is a lock?

Yeah, I think they managed to find four other names as bad or worse than Pelicans.

Why can't they just call them the New Orleans Gators instead of swamp dogs. Has Florida trademarked that?

Pelicans is great. Get over it.

I'm from St Louis, and I am a life-long Cardinals fan. We're named after a tiny, non-aggressive bird. No one I've ever met has complained that our team isn't named after something macho or hip or cool enough.

Oh, god forbid a professional team has a retro name. Let's all name ourselves monster names like Loup-garou and dino-names like Toronto (no hate towards the best realgm community here, you guys are awesome, your team name is inspired by a 1994 movie).

Go Pelicans.

Mosquitos isn't that bad, I get it. People complaining about it claim "the Spirit" is better?

They are smart. They are committed to the name Pelicans. Released the idea to the public. Most people hated it. So what they did is released 4 other 'possible' names that are worse than Pelicans. It makes Pelicans sound better in comparison and suddenly Pelicans doesn't seem like such a bad idea to the public anymore.
Knicks.

^Hey, I like Voodoo.... I like Pelicans a lot, but Voodoo is actually really good. Think about it, the matchup with the Magic, Voodoo vs. Magic, thats great right there.

Like i said, Pelicans is good. And boy is it better than the other ones.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Too bad Willy Deville is already dead, he could've sung the Rougarou theme song!

Swamp Dogs are basically the deep southern term for alligators (or "gators") aren't they? Could work at least from a logo standpoint. But it kind of sounds bush league or minor league-ish.

Rougarou is a nice cool concept as far as the mythical creature nature of it but it just doesn't sound right. As someone already said, the first image is of Scooby Doo saying it to Raggy...I mean Shaggy.

Mosquitos? LOL. Great googly moogly. Might as well just call them the New Orleans Moonshiners.

Pretty bad names, and I know there already are strange names ones out there, like Nets, Spurs, Knicks, etc.. but I don't these could ever sound natural to me like the ones I mentioned sound to me.
