And I love how literally not a single non-Rockets fan is defending the Rockets organization. Fortunately there are always reasonable posters like HotRocks34.

morey's presentation involved him using a pic of melo in his current jersey number holding a nba title. It wouldnt have been the same effect if it was melo with a blank rockets jersey on. Lin is just butthurt.
Rockets did the same exact same thing last year with beverley for dwight and beverley didnt get hurt. Lin is average anyway so even if he gets pissed we could easily find an upgrade once we let him go.
My goodness, Rockets fans showing the same arrogance as their organization does. You don't disrespect a current player of yours, even if he is undisputedly the worst in the world, period.
how am I showing arrogance? Lin is just butthurt because he by chance wears the same number Melo wore. Who cares? It's Jeremy Lin anyway

This.
Obviously you say this, you want him in Chicago. The reality is that Lin hasn't played up to his contract, so why would he expect his employer to be happy with him?
The fact that I want him in Chicago doesn't make it less classless.
You're okay with this because Lin wasn't playing well last season?

Someone the other day told me I was being "spoiled" when talking about Morey, because of what Morey has done (in a positive sense).
This (the topic of this thread) is the type of thing that has me down on the organization. And this is not an outlier, IMO.
It's sad. Things don't have to be done this way. But they are done this way. And that is why people become alienated, IMO.
I've been a fan for less than 10 years, but this makes no sense to me. Was it more fun to root for the coked up Rockets who wasted years of Hakeem's genius? Was it more fun to root for that moron Steve Francis who could never play winning basketball? Was it more fun with "Somebody tell Kelvin Cato we want our money back?", or all the horrible moves Carrol Dawson did as the manager of the Rockets?
I consider the current organization to be disappointing and with little heart. Not that they don't mean well, but the holes are gaping, IMO.
Morey ----> Rotisserie League GM with little to show for his efforts in terms of postseason success
McHale ---> Puppet head coach
Howard ---> Probably the most mature star on the team, which is scary. Still, fragile and erratic
Harden ----> Incredibly talented, lacks heart, lacks maturity
Parsons ----> Overvalues himself to the point of riling opposing players
Beverley ---> Solid player who seems caught up in the Harden clique
Francis was a real competitor, even if a flawed one. The coked up Rockets weren't all coked up. Etc.
I'm not saying others have to agree with my feelings, I'm just conveying my own personal opinions here.
This team lacks self-awareness, heart, discretion, emotional intelligence, and leadership. The sum is much less than what the parts seem to be. And, they seem to diss or tick off everyone. Asik, Lin, Lowry and others. It's just unfortunate, and seems unnecessarily messed up.

All they needed to do, to not be disrespectful, would be to put up a picture of Melo in a Rockets uniform without using his number 7 on the photoshop.
It's not hard. Yeah I get that Lin is out the door if Melo comes in... but if that doesn't happen, all they've achieved is alienated their own player.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

This attitude is deplorable. Just because Melo is a better basketball player doesn't discount the fact that Lin is a human being and deserves the basic courtesy afforded to a player who you signed to a contract.

That is pretty disrespectful but I get the sense it was more stupidity, someone didn't think about the fact that they wear the same number.

Re: Lin feeling disrespected?
It's disrespectful no matter who you are. Lin being Asian is one of the reason the Rockets acquired him. He puts butts in the seats that had largely left after Ming retired.
I see this as a subtle message to both players that if Melo comes, Lin has to go... For better or worse I think that's the reality of the situation.
But to make such a public statement sends a message not only to Lin who righteously feels disrespected, but also to potential Free Agents, that while the Rockets will do whatever it takes to acquire the next big thing, they aren't as committed to retaining that talent.
There was a better way to handle it.

That is so true.
Most chinese (and asian people for that matter), you never hear them b*tching and complaining about it all the time. That's what makes it even sadder IMO. They just put up with life and make the best with what they have and move on.
BTW I would absolutely LOVE to have Lin on the Hornets! Perfect attitude and demeanor. Great for the team in more ways than on the court.
MJ is not paying 15 million for Lin plus 9 million still owed to Tyrus. I would take him with 2 1st though.
Yeah probably not.
But let's say we signed Parson's (good friends with Lin), I wouldn't be surprised if Lin would entertain the idea of signing with Charlotte for a reasonable contract.
Not very likely, but not impossible

Other free agents are watching that poster too.
Every agent would still be eager to join the Rockets........only if they are paid like Lin and Asik.

Apparently this is hard to understand for some. Not only you alienate one of your own players, you're also hurting your reputation among players league-wide. Lose-lose.
Not to mention it's also messed up from an ethical point of view.

Re: Lin feeling disrespected?
Sooner or later players will start taking notice of how they get treated by Houston. Revolving door on a team that just got knocked out by Portland.
I'm sorry, but you have to treat your players with respect.
Lin and Asik are not players that are scrubs, they're decent to above average at the very least.

Dick move by the Rockets. If you don't like a player, trade him.. don't mock him by putting stupid billboards when he still plays for your team.

Dude you got paid based off 2 weeks of play, STFU
Also I will never forget the idiot Knicks fans that actually wanted Melo to defer to Jeremy Lin.

Re: Lin feeling disrespected?
This was actually a very shrewd move by Morey. He knows things did not end well between Melo and Lin and chose to make it known to Melo that he's got his back over Lin. I bet Melo had a good laugh about it (assuming he knew that Lin was wearing #7 for Houston).

Is Lin getting his number 7 jersey retired?

You're probably one of those people who feel that they can under perform at work and still keep their job.

This is real life, not some fairy-tale where you have to be respected and treated like a soft pillow no matter what happens. If he wanted respect he should have earned it the past two seasons, you're not guaranteed anything in life.
