I guess I didn't understand your "ship has sailed" comment. The fact that LeBron lobbied for Napier and then left, will make Miami look even more foolish if (when?) Napier proves to be a huge bust. That guy had no business being drafted anywhere near the first round. Not that I'm rooting against the guy. I loved his heart and balls in college. But I don't see anything resembling an NBA player there at all.

I agree completely...I found it hilarious that they traded up. He does have heart but that can only get you so far...physically, its gonna be a tough road for him
The funniest thing is that Lebron didn't even lobby for Napier. He sent out a tweet saying he thought he was good. He didn't say go draft him. Talk about an overreaction.

Lebron's influence on the Napier pick is probably overstated. The Heat were drafting for need trying to get a PG or C. Napier was the best PG left on the board. Also, even if he looks a little outmatched, the 24th pick isn't a bad spot to take a risk on an NCAA champion. There weren't many players taken behind him who were obviously more talented.

Heat made a mistake in trading up for him, in drafting a second PG w/ size limitations, and in not showing some real moxie by grabbing a dude like Anderson, but those are routine errors that every team makes. I can see the Heat drafting the same way if Lebron wasn't even on the team.

Bust: Parker (his scoring game is overrated and he can't/doesn't pass), Wiggins (I think he'll just be an average SF, though he was better off in CLE), LaVine (just an athlete with a handle, so much wrong with his game), Ennis (no ability to get his shot off at all and not a good enough jump shooter to make up for it; Kendell Marshall was a stud floor general too but he's a scrub), Randle (just a rotation player, not a star)

Sleeper: Spencer Dinwiddie- hyper-efficient combo-guard out of Colorado? Chauncey Billiups anybody? Dude shoots well, draws fouls well, runs the pick and roll, is very intelligent, and has a size advantage on most PGs. He shouldn't have fallen to the second round. I was very high on him well before my team drafted him.

Sleepers who my team didn't draft: Jordan Adams, Mitch McGary (huge sleeper, OKC got a steal), Jarnelle Stokes (I think he'll be about as good as Randle), Russ Smith (he's better than Napier but got no hype pre-draft), Kyle Anderson (I was mad that the Spurs got him, it's not fair!), Lamar Patterson (I think he could stick around), Adreian Payne (stretch four with the athleticism to play defense and rebound? Sign me up)

I like your sleepers but c'mon man did you get that bust section from the Hipster Book of Basketball?! Haha, it seems unlikely that all 3 of Parker/Wiggins/Randle washes out, at least one of them should take the leap.

Best - Embiid.

He will be the best Center in the NBA in 3/4 years.

Bust - Exum

A combo guard with a score-first mentality that can't shoot. The only reason he was a top 5 pick is because he was labeled as a young 6'6 PG, when he is in fact a 6'6 SG that can't shoot.

Sleeper - Mitch McGary

Don't be surprised if this guy starts for the Thunder once Perkins is gone. He does all the little things that helps you to win in the right way.

I guess it depends on your definition of bust. All three of these guys are going to have jobs in the NBA, but I don't think that any of them will be legit stars.

Well, if we're talking their rookie season only, then I'd say:

Best-Noel. He has had a year to get ready, learn the ropes, and prepare for this season more than other rookies.

Bust-Exum. Has been hyped so much for a player that nobody has seen play other than SL or a Hoops Summit from a couple years ago. In the aforementioned SL, he didn't really show much positive. I hope he turns out great, but if anybody is going to bust, it's got to be Exum.

Sleeper-TJ Warren. If he gets shots, then he gets buckets. Could score enough to win ROY, if the situation works out in his favor.

Watching him. Exum was the nice unknown of this draft. Scoring a lot against under-19 means nothing. I'll say this: If he played 1 single year in an American College, he wouldn't have been a lottery pick in the NBA draft. He would be exposed big time.

2013 FIFA u19 stats
18.2ppg/3.8apg @ 33% from 3p 60% FT

Summer League

7.2ppg/2.8apg/3.0 TOs @ 30%FG / 64% FT / 16% 3P.

There's a pattern here. Low amount of assists, high amount of TOs, very poor shooting from deep and at the FT line (and that's especially worrisome for a guard). The only difference is that he could score a lot against under-19 player, while he struggled against grown men in the Summer League.

I know I am a minority among realgm fans but I don't mind. That's my opinion. He is very young and he could obviously improve, but people saying that the Magic screwed up passing on him to take Gordon will eat their words in a few years. Magic fans won't miss Exum a bit with Efrid Payton and I actually think that he will end up better than Exum.
