One of the greatest tragedies of the wave of advanced stats in basketball is the death of context, which allows folks to actually believe such silly things as, "Allen Iverson is the most overrated player in the history of the game."
He couldn't score without taking a crapton of terrible shots, couldn't play the point yet couldn't guard any other position, was a crappy teammate, and if the Sixers were in the West he'd have made one, maybe two playoff series and gotten bounced in the first round.
I don't need advanced stats to figure those things out. Or to know that I'd take KJ (who played way before advanced stats) every time over him.

That's not being underrated, that's just being forgotten. The '70s were a pretty terrible time for the NBA so pretty much everybody from that period gets ignored.
