This is the longest off-season ever. Ok, it's not, but it sure feels like it.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

But they didn't win those games did they? Overall they didn't have a very strong playoff run considering where they were seeded and the fact that the Cavs were playing shorthanded.
As for this season, the Hawks lost Carroll who was their most important perimeter defender and that was after they limped through the 2nd half of the season. As for peaking, they're not exactly a young team. Schroeder has upside but I'm not sure where else they get better. Korver turns 35 this season. Millsap (I love the guy) has almost certainly peaked as he's turning 31 this season. Horford and Teague are in their prime and not likely to have another level. The Hawks starting 5 had great health last season which will be tough to duplicate.
Anything could happen, I just don't see how they approach 60 wins again this season, especially when they didn't finish last season like a 60 win team. Regression is almost a certainty.
The Hawks made it to the ECF for the first time in their history since they've been in Atlanta. Wish the Cavs series was closer but to say it was not very strong playoff run is BS considering their health. And you said the Cavs were shorthanded but so were the Hawks so....
Again, Sefolosha is a better and more important defender than Carroll and do you think maybe the reason they limped through the second half was because they were resting players? They had the 1st seed locked up so early that they Coach Bud didn't even care about trying to win in the second half. Korver turns 35 but he's not exactly relying on his athleticism... The Hawks had great health during the regular season but NOT during the playoffs and that definitely effected their play.
I honestly don't care if they win 60 again...and if they weren't resting starters it probably would have been 65-67 wins. The depth on this team will be MUCH better at every position except SF. I would be shocked if they don't win 55+ barring injuries...I just want to see them give the Cavs a better fight. But again the Hawks will finish better than people expect like they do every year. (except 2013-14 when Horford got hurt).

I'm not sure how you can spin getting swept by a lower seeded team who was playing without their 2nd and 3rd best players as a successful playoff run, but that's your perogative I guess. I don't give them any bonus points for beating the Nets and the Wizards in less than decisive fashion. Losing either of those series would have been a disaster.
I would put 55-56 wins at the very top end of the spectrum for the Hawks this season and expect them to be closer the 49-53 range. You do have a top 5 coach but a lot of things fell almost perfectly for 60 wins last season including health. Even the point differential was that of a 56 win team and the team that limped into the finish the season was far from a 60 win juggernaut. We'll find out soon enough.

IndyPacers67 wrote:Assuming the Pacers stay healthy there's no way they won't make the playoffs. Last year Solomon Hill lead the team in minutes, George Hill missed a big chunk of the first half, and of course PG didn't play until the last 6 games.
All that said, the misconception on this board is that the Pacers front court has gotten worse with the loss of West and Hibbert. Roy was still somewhat of a force defensively last year, but overall he and West had such terrible seasons they were net negatives. David West in particular was incredibly lethargic all season and probably the worst front court defensive player in the NBA. Jordan Hill, LaVoy Allen, Miles Turner, Ian Mahnimi is barely serviceable and likely to be the one of the worst front courts in the east, but it really can't get worse than it was last season.
With PG, Monta and GHill, the Pacers will probably win 43-47 games, good for the 6 seed in the East this year.

I can't say I agree with you man. The East has gotten better and the Pacers, while getting PG, Ellis and GH back, have lost their top 5 defensive center. For a team focused on defense that's a massive blow. What do you do vs all the teams with legitimate 7 foot threats or multiple 7 foot threats?
Improving East is going to make it tough for you guys this year. I mean I think the Celtics will be punching for the 8th seed with you. Teams like us have to hope that Toronto and Washington severely regress (unlikely) and that Detroit, New York, Charlotte don't have that 'clicking' moment or we'll be watching from the stands in May.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Re: Crazy EC playoff-seed-predictions
Judging by the rest of these posts, these predictions are actually crazy.
1) Cleveland: Best team in the East, ended the season on a tear.
2) Atlanta: Lost Carroll, added Splitter. Slight downgrade (Carroll was teh FIFTH option, the least important cog), but they won SIXTY games last year after resting a bunch of players at the end. Korver's a little old, but really, how much do people expect them to drop off?
3) Washington: Pretty blah roster IMO, but built for the regular season thanks to Wall. I think Wall's overrated but he's still good, just very ball-dominant. Need a new coach.
4) Toronto: I dunno man. They're ok. But they have continuity and added some defense. The type of squad that feasts on regular season scrub teams.
5) Miami: Not sure what I'm missing here. Keep hearing about all this depth, then I hear names like Gerald Green and Amare Stoudemire. L. O. L. Having said that, their starting lineup is good even if the fit is iffy (and Whiteside is overrated).
6) Chicago: Depends on Rose. The frontcourt is good but not getting better and fits kind of awkwardly (development by Mirotic offset by decline in Noah and Gasol). It's hard for me to explain, but basically every big is good but there isn't a combination of them that is "perfect."
7) Milwaukee: Like a lot of their pieces, but they're very young and fit awkwardly. MCW is NOT the answer at PG. Giannis is the real deal.
8) Detroit: Great fit, but young.

But he is not close to an MVP player so obviously thats not realistic.
Cavs are head and shoulders above anybody in the east and if healthy it isn't close.

Not all that confident about 8. I think the East looks stronger this year. The West is still more top heavy. 5 of the 6 best championship bets are still in the West. All the way down to Toronto would be in contention playoff spot in the West now IMO.
