I think this idea will result in teams taking less 3 pointers. Right now, a 3 point shot i worth 50% more than a 2 point shot. However, with this new scoring system implemented, some of the 3 pointers will become 5 pointers and some of the 2 pointers will become 4 pointers. I have no idea what percentage of 2/3 pointers do not touch the rim, but assuming that they are roughly equal, the 3 pointers become less valuable. Moreover, now it pays to be fouled because free throws is actually something that people can really practice and get better at hitting all net. Once you get fouled, you can potentially have 6 points in a high percentage way.
Overall, I see a guy like James Harden really benefitting from this scoring system. The guy will pretty much be unstoppable (at least in the regular season) as he gets to the lines ridiculous number of times and he has the ability to swish the free throws.
If the ball doesn't touch the rim and it's all net, should it be worth an extra 2 points?

How about if you play with your shoe laces untied the entire game, your team gets an extra 5 points at the end? lmao

Well I mean this idea is just as valid as making a random # of ft out (shorter in the corners) worth 3 points rather than 2.
