Even if Young has Brandon Jennings type efficiency for the rest of his career (which would be really disappointing), he would still be an excellent playmaker. I'm just blown away at how good of a passer and playmaker he is. He doesn't just have good vision, his timing and IQ is off the charts. He reminds me so much of Steve Nash, and I don't make that comparison lightly because he's my favorite player of all time. A player as young as he is should not be so damn good at running an offense and making the kinds of passes he's making.

it's kinda ironic how the people heaping endless praise on him today are the same ones bashing those who thought he was a bust after SL. Ya'll are all way to prematurely trying to judge a kid.

That said, all star potential.

However, personally I feel that Atlanta should have drafted Mo Bamba instead of Trae. Just my opinion though- I don't want to cause an uproar!

Bamba was my guy if they didn't pick Trae. I always felt Schlenk could have pullled a deal off with Memphis for the 4th pick or even a trade with Orlando. Probably too pro-active for a young GM to make tho.

But if you add Zion to this group it will make for a crazy team atmosphere. Add another swing player from the DAllas pick. Maybe even flip Prince if it warranted it. Don't mind me, just dreaming out loud.

Trae
Romeo Langford perhaps

I've seen this sort of thing too many times now to buy into the hype.

I remember Tyreke Evans was headed to the HoF because of his 20-5-5 season. I remember everyone saying Brandon Jennings was the next big thing when he dropped, what was it, 55? Against the Knicks? That was real early in his rookie career too. Hell, Gorgui Dieng had a 20-20 game his rookie season and I'm pretty sure the only other person to do that was Hakeem.

Point is, this kind of thing is irrelevant when it comes to future success. What I'd be more concerned about is the issues he had when he was drafted; defence (still looks bad), shot selection (can't speak to it personally) and turnovers (which have been great so far, so that's good).

Glad he finally showed up so people can hush a little. I’m still torn between him and Luka and I expect one of them to win ROY. I love the fact that he can actually rack up assists. His impact on games once he gets more consistent is going to be very different.

With Ayton and Young doing well, I hope the incessant media wankfest over Doncic would cool down a little.

That and Michael Carter-Williams very early triple-double. Mighta been his first game.

It's early. Maybe I am wrong to be so enthusiastic.

For the record the rookies I like for sure even better than Trae are Jaren J Jr and Mo Bamba. Those are cannot miss great players barring unforeseen. Those guys, Ayton and Doncic aren't Brandon Jennings.

Jennings in today's NBA is still really good. (Don't be surprised if Carter-Williams plays his best NBA basketball in the future).

If you think there is some jelaously between Trae and Doncic, this is Doncic last tweet:

Great post.

The real surprise is Young's playmaking. Assists to turnovers is already a strength; and he's on supposedly a bad team. Wow.

No way he's a bust, already. Contrast with two players drafted a little higher in prior drafts: DeAngelo Russell and Markell Fultz. Also, Lonzo Ball. Young is legit in comparison.

OTOH, just to pump the brakes a bit: I would look at Yogi Ferrell and compare him to Trae. How would Yogi be in Trae Young's spot?Perspective is important. Big numbers on a lesser team...

Yes. Young also reminds me of Nash.

More Nash than Steph so far.

I dunno. If some is good then isn't more even better? (*Neil Everett has Hawaii roots. Gotta credit the source. Pono*).

Are there too many lovelies that you can't "wank" more.

Doncic can also be all that as well IMO. This draft is hellacious good.

We've had ROY players fall off the face of the earth so im certainly not praising this kid after his 3rd game.

I'd really like to trade coaches. Joerger for Brooks.

Dream big. Remember Sacto's current front office is the same one that squeezed out this stinker:

https://www.nba.com/sixers/news/150710-kings-trade-release

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – JULY 10, 2015 – The Philadelphia 76ers today announced they have acquired 21-year-old guard Nik Stauskas (STOUS-kiss), veteran forwards Carl Landry and Jason Thompson, a future first round pick, and the rights to swap first round picks in 2016 and 2017 from Sacramento in exchange for the rights to 2015 second round draft picks Arturas Gudaitis and Luka Mitrovic.

:( :o  :noway:

DAYUM!

I thought Ernie Grunfeld was an imbecile with the deals he's made. That above is really bad. Like the Nets giving Boston hella picks bad. I wondered how Stauskas could hit EVERYTHING at Michigan but (apparently) bust in the NBA. He's looking better now. :)

Kings better keep their young core. Jackson and Bagley, if any, they MIGHT trade down the road, Idunno.

With that deal above, the Sixers didn't really allow Stauskas much room to breath. Not with Bellinelli and Redick in front of him and their (bust) on Fultz. Everybody makes mistakes. I think Ben Simmons was one of the picks they swapped, right?

haha I love dropping the Stauskas trade details into threads. It's underrated as one of the craziest trades in the last few years.

wait for it...

Stauskas!
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

I have no problem with more talent entering the league, its the incessant "everyone who passed on Doncic is a dunce" narrative that is a bit irksome and tiring.

Why are people so down on Bagley in this thread? He is currently putting up per 36 numbers of 20/10 on high efficiency, getting to the ft line at a high rate and getting steals. Solid 18.3 PER and advanced stats are ok (0.0 VORP, 0.7 BPM and 1.2 OBPM)

I haven't seen him play, but those stats seem ok at first glance

Happy for him. I thought the trade was a great asset deal for the hawks. Especially if they really liked trae. They guy was a beast in college before getting triple teamed. And that deep three has could be quite valuable

This rookie class is a beast, just 4 days into season, I think Ayton and Doncic are sure fire future all stars, hopefully Young can stay consistently brilliant like this, and we may see some other rookies emerging in 2nd, 3rd, 4th month of season as they:
- get used to the NBA pace, like JJackson, Bagley, Bamba, Wendell, Sexton, M Bridges, Knox, and Shai,
- get back from injuries like Michael Porter Jr, Mikal Bridges
- get consistent minutes/ into rotation to show what they can do like Grayson, Diallo, AHoliday, Anfernee Simons and Mitchell Robinson
