I like the confidence and am fine with the comments.

However, I just don’t see it with Young. Terrible efficiency. He is going to be nothing more than a low efficiency scorer. Which is fine, but not gamechanging. Dime a dozen today.

how is it cheap when that was the exact question asked by Byron Scott. Trae didn't pick the 5-10 years.

Well, ok fine, its a cheap question them for starters. Its a trap question, because the only way you can answer is with a cheap answer.

It's actually a good prediction because even if he isn't better very few people will even remember 5 to 10 years from now.

That's a weird statement, how do you even measure something like that? He has some passionate fans, no need to make it about the kid, unless you are hell-bent on not liking him,but that would surprise me based on your avatar.

Read literally any thread about any rookie not named Luka Doncic and get back to me.

That's not very scientific. You probably see what you want to see.

I saw some of his games. He gets a lot of touches thus the high scores. His D is mediocre and no alpha dog demeanor. I

It's amazing how many people clearly don't watch the dude play at all but feel like they can diagnose his game and career right now.

He said what any player would say. Is he going to admit that Luka is levels above him as a player? No.

That being said, he is nowhere near as good as Luka and I would wager the house that he never will be. Doncic has an outside shot of being a legit #1 option on a contender type player. Trae doesnt have that projection in even the most ideal developmental path IMO.

That's a good player...a borderline all-star. But Luka has an MVP ceiling. I'll bet anyone on this forum, at 10 to 1 odds, Trae never wins an MVP.

He's not a defensive liability anymore. He just isn't ever going to be a defensive stud. He moves his feet well on defense and communicates extremely well for a rookie but since you don't watch the Hawks and give your life to your god Luka, you will never see that.

Keep that same energy when he does or wins titles.

Oh and blocked. Luka stans get blocked.

No matter what you think about a particular fanbase, you are not allowed to advocate for them being blocked. As annoying as certain posters may be, you're only making things worse by antagonizing them. If you have a problem with a particular poster, report the troublesome post and do not engage said poster further.

it's a stigma for Trae really. poor guy prolly doesnt deserve the extra pressure.

Why? Because he went through a REALLY bad stretch after his first 8 games or so? Hit the rookie wall like a lot of rookies do...especially rookie PG’s.

Check his efficiency recently. I see no reason to see why he can’t become an efficient player as he keeps improving.

Can he improve? Sure. I just don’t see it.

He is at 40% which to me is like the .200 “Mendoza line” in baseball. It’s the minimum expectation of a pro basketball player.

He wasn’t much better in college- 42%.

Guys can make a jump- I’m looking at De’Aaron Fox going from low 40’s to high 40’s. But I don’t see it with Trae because he takes horrendous shots. He is also much less gifted athletically than Fox.

This is all opinion based. But I’ve been watching NBA long enough to go with my eyes and my gut. And what I see is an undersized inefficient chucker who doesn’t play defense.

He shot selection has improved already in his rookie year. Last 21 games:

17.5 points, 7.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds on 45/37/83 in only around 30 mpg.

It took him a little while to adjust but he’s looked way more like a future star than an inefficient chucker. There’s a reason the Hawks have been playing a lot better recently.....

I think there is a really good chance that Trae is a future lower tier All-Star. Even then, the draft day deal likely will go down as very poor. Not Tractor Traylor for Dirk poor, but something along the lines of a CJ McCollum level player for a Dirk level player. (Clearly not comparing the play styles, just the 'tiers' they likely end up).

McCollum didn’t start becoming a lower tier All-Star until 24. Trae is way ahead of him at 20 years old.
Maybe Trae only becomes a lower tier all star but he easily has a higher ceiling than CJ.

Don't get the hate in this thread. Trae and the Hawks have been playing great as of late and beat the Clips last night.. there is good reason to believe a 19 year old rookie will grow and the guy has great potential. Luka is solid but has professional experience, meaning his growth might not be as extreme as others.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Can't really find too much fault with how he asked the question... What was he supposed to say?

"Luka is my daddy, the Hawks were fools for trading down to take me - Karate Diop is the GOAT?"

Nothing wrong with what he said at all.

The interviewer is the one who FRAMED the question that way and put him on the spot.

What the heck player is gonna say about the player he got traded for, "nah they f'd up, I can't hold Luka's jock strap" lol like seriously idk how anyone can possibly expect anything different.
