Yes it's all LeBron's fault that the Lakers fired a coach who won only 39.8% of his games as head coach.

Not Luke's fault the team was terrible. Lebron had a losing record while playing this season. Maybe they should fire him with your backwards logic.

You honestly believe he had no say-so in roster acquisitions during his entire Laker tenure as head coach?

No one puts a gun to the heads of the Earl Watsons of the world when they decide to become the head coach of a perennial lottery team. I've seen Laker fans complain about his lack of coaching ability during his entire tenure, but now it's LeBron's fault he's been bad for 3 years?

Jeanie Buss runs the organization, not LeBron. She's made that clear. Find a new scapegoat.

NotaHypeJob wrote:Agreed, people pointing to Luke's overall record are being disingenuous. Luke took over a dumpster fire that Byron Scott left and built them up to respectable prior to this season with Lebron.

At no point were the Lakers respectable during Luke's entire tenure. You've got to be kidding.

No, he didn't. LeBron had a winning record when he played this year.

What doesn't make sense is blaming LeBron for all of your organization's shortcomings when Jeanie's made it abundantly clear she runs the Lakers; but continue to cultivate your own reality to help you sleep better at night.

I know its really easy to pile on and the circumstances were bad but I'm just going to throw it out there that Luke did a legitimately bad job as a head coach, well before the current circus. I wish him well but he's much, much closer to Jason Kidd than Steve Kerr right now. I hope he improves going forward, hitting the reset button but he was legitimately a bottom 5 coach for his entire tenure and added to the Lakers' issues.

Or is this just the Lakers and Walton being 1st class?

Yeah by cherry picking which games he’d play after the playoffs were out of reach....

Lakers playing playoff team still fighting for positioning? = load management!

Lakers playing a tank team missing/resting their two best players? = suiting up!

Soon as HIS record was one game above .500 w/ the cherry picking? = shutdown for the season!

That’s totally how it went down and those of us who are educated followers of the league know better than to fall for that. Think he was 3 games below .500 before the cherry picking stuff started...maybe 2.

This is going to be fascinating. Lebron is signed and living in LA long-term, a declining star. Ty Lue is already being mentioned as the likely replacement at head coach. What if no one wants the Lakers GM job?

Looks like Pelinka is going to run the whole show.

That would be too crazy. I don't believe it.

Hate that Luke Walton is leaving the Lakers. He was not the problem. He was a victim of circumstances. He’s the perfect coach for the Kings. I will be rooting for them.

Then Lebron will handle it - Pelinka just need to sign the acquistions.

No one in their right mind would hire Ty Lue, Kidd or Mark Jackson... If this is what Lebron brings than he should go...

Luke took a 17 win team to a 35 win team in 2 years.
Lebron leaking that he doesn't want to play for Luke and trying to get the whole team traded did not help him this year.

Sad to see a one time great franchise sell its soul to LeBron like this.

It never ceases to amaze me how people are so quick and sound so sure when judging a coach's value for the exact same reasons.

99% of the time it's because of rotations, lineups and winrate.

Winrate still holds some merit, but not without context as in roster's construction, quality, fit and of course injuries. These factors are never taken into account when criticizing a coach, there are plenty of posts in this thread as a proof.

Rotations and lineups, though... Knowing nobody among us has access to inner information such as orders given to him to develop this player or showcase that one, enforcing a system that leaves him with no options but to use those lineups, or simply tanking orders (which by the way is the simplest and safest way to tank, I'd rather see my coach draw suboptimal lineups that diminish my team's performance than straight up telling my players to lose on purpose, that is an extremely toxic culture that ruins careers).

And last but not least, the audacity of people thinking that just because they don't like a certain rotation pattern they know better than a guy who has played, loved and breathed this game since before half his haters were even born is what astounds me the most.

Ignorance always sounds so sure, it's ironic

On topic: I feel happy that Luke doesn't have to put up with the circus that the Lakers have become. As a fan of this team, I miss Dr. Buss more than ever. A steady hand at the helm that knows when to act hiring good minds and when to step aside and let those minds work is an invaluable asset. Wolves fans and Spurs fans will understand me, for opposite reasons of course.

Lakers fans acting like everything was fine and dandy before LeBron signed when really they missed the playoffs for five straight years and had the worst record in the league during that period.

As a Wolves fan, a team missing the playoffs 5 years in a row looks like a good run.
