Horrible trade for Memphis.

If you're looking at the grand scheme of things, New Orleans gets the best player in this immediate trade, drop down 7 spots so they still have a shot at a draft prospect, and get the cap space to bring back Lowry. So presumably it's Lowry/Hart/Ingram/Zion/JV as their starting five. That's really solid, plus NAW, Kira, Hayes as their bench unit.

Memphis brings in Bledsoe, and they got what...Allen, Konchar, Bane, Melton, Jones all at guard and they're interested in Giddey too? They don't really have a big that can shoot a 3, JV was alright I guess but Adams doesn't really space the floor. The roster is weirdly constructed.

Spacing will be once again an issue for Zion now , nobody falls for jonas pump fake 3 ball

Huge improvement over Adams. JV brings similar level of defense and rebounding so Zion doesn't need to exert himself there in the RS. And then on offense he can atleast stand at the 3 and someone needs to stay close. May not be Brook Lopez or Myles Turner but still a very solid piece to have. He'll atleast space to mid range and give Zion space which Adams could never do.

Great trade for the Pelicans. They have young assets, 10->17 not a huge deal for them. Then offload Adams and Bledsoe and get back the most underrated big man in the league.

$36 million if Ball and Hart walk. $25 million if they bring Hart back. I assume Lowry's going to come in around $20 mil a year.

I think the deal is fine for both teams. Idk why people act like either side got fleeced.

Griffin made a stupid moves by giving Adams that deal. Had to make up for it. The Bledsoe deal was still worth it. There was a good chance he played well and could have been moved.

For Memphis they have space space to take on these contracts. Get a future first rounder. And a lottery pick this year. If they have someone they really like then its worth it.

Memphis is trading up in a draft that appears to be very good and they're also picking up a future 1st. I think that this is a great move for them.

yea, I think they are ready to move forward with JJJ @ center, they also have Clarke and Tillman, might even take another big @ 10 if they really like someone (Garuba? Sengun?)

but yea, this doesn't really matter for Memphis at all, and they get an extra 1st next yr as well most likely.

Yep. They're taking on two bad contracts, for sure, but there's only 2 more years of them left. Memphis is not contending right now anyway so taking on these two contracts to get a better chance in the draft is good for them.

Doesn’t look great for Memphis but I want to see what moves come next, who they draft, how they dump Bledsoe etc.

Yes it is a good deal for New Orleans but as stated earlier, Griffin is having to pay to clean up his disastrous offseason in November. Paying to get rid of guys you paid to get 8 months ago isn’t a good look.

When I heard picks and Sam Presti wasn't involved I knew the Grizzles were going to lose this trade badly. Major kudos to Griffin he essentially got from under Adams and Bledsoe for 7 spots and probably a late round pick.

New Orleans will probably overpay Lowry now. Will make a lot of sense for him to go there.

Why take a huge paycut for the Lakers? Or go play with Julius Randle on the Knicks.

Now he gets to mentor Zion and get the credit for getting them into the playoffs. A few years down the line they could be title contenders.

Terrible move for Memphis

But Val and Zion is a poor fit, too.

this is what i was looking for. Hadn't really had the chance to see JV like that recently, wasn't sure how much changed about his game.

Very meh justification to me

Gaining cap space to chase big targets and getting a much better player (and better fit) by giving up picks that they have plenty of is not a good justification?

Why is Val a much better fit? Because he takes one 3pta per game?

They moved up 7 spots. If the trade was outright for the 10th overall pick and they weren't throwing in a 2nd it would be much closer to fair.

I still personally wouldn't have done the deal but at least they wouldn't be getting fleeced.

Pels are signing Lowry. Simmons on his pod talked about how much Griffin wants him.

They put themselves into that mess with the Adams extension but moving from 10th to 17th is a fair price to pay for capspace.
I would say 2022 lakers pick is pretty fair price to get JV.

If they're just opening PT for Clarke and JJJ... But Bledsoe? Grizz guards can't even sniff the court before and they're more productive than Eric has been the past couple of years. Surely Melton and Tyus over Bledsoe

Like the deal for NOP. Good fit with Zion and allows NAW to blossom

Jonas can hit the 3 ball at a mediocre clip like Myles Turner, who people wanted us to pay the farm for, why so glum now? Is it because of the shotblocking? Because Jonas is a much more effective player, and cheaper.

Didn’t everyone just say Bledsoe and Adams were immovable? The Pelicans just took the best player in the trade, who is on a cap friendly one year deal, and moved down 7 spots from 10.

I would think the Grizzlies would want to wait and see who was sitting at 10 before they pulled the trigger. I don’t think there is a big gap between 10 and 17 unless someone unexpected drops.

Hope this signals that we got word from Lowry that he wants to play here.

Jonas isn’t the mythical unicorn that people think grow on trees that the Pels need, but he was a 17/12 guy that hit the 3 ball at .352 and .368 the last two years, and was a solid contributor to a gritty and grimey defense in Memphis.

I like it for us, unless we waste the space we’ve created on junk.

i mean...not like Memphis is done, they'll probably look to trade one of their younger guards, maybe Allen or Melton (or maybe both).

as for the pick...people don't realize you're drafting in a completely different tier of player when you're picking 10th vs. 17 in this draft...so that's a huge come up + the extra 1st rounder next yr as well.

wouldn't be surprised if Memphis is targeting Kuminga or Jalen Johnson, or maybe Keon honestly.
