1) Why value so much a ball from a so arbitrary statistical accomplishment. I bet the value of the 601st or 599th ball will be much lower.

2) How can you prove that the ball is the special one? In Brazil, the man who was given the ball probably would sell it to about 60 people (logically, he would buy identical balls and sell these balls as if it was the special one). Every buyer would not entirely trust the seller and the price would not pass U$500.

1) No good reason really. It's an impressively large number, and a round one. In theory, the 601st should be more valuable, and so on, but round numbers are sexier.

2) There are trusted companies who do nothing but authenticate sports memorabilia, autographs, etc. It wouldn't have been difficult at all.

It's not a record that will never be beaten (like those Superbowls and QB starter rings that he has). Eventually there will be someone like Brees grinding his way through 18-game regular seasons. And Patriots offense were very rushing TD heavy for a long time, so the whole concept of passing TD as a statistic is a bit vague. I mean he's part of an offense and the offense is trying to score one way or another... Great milestone but ultimately the ball will just gather dust at his mansion, like someone mentioned :D
