After the Steph injury, I've been saying that teams should strongly consider resting players.

That was with about 12-13 games left in the season.

Sixers/GSW gave the Heat a golden opportunity to rest our guys and, not only did we fail to take advantage of it, we actually embarrassed ourselves by losing those games.

BTW, we got another opportunity to tonight to rest our players with the Kings resting Fox + Sabonis. You can already tell how this is gonna go.

Getting Theis was also a big get too, but noone is replacing what Williams does for that team. It's a massive massive loss.

This has been a really rough injury for most. If it requires surgery then he's definitely out for the rest of this year and probably will miss a good chunk of next year too. If it just requires a shaving of it with rest and rehab, then he's gonna be out at least a month, but probably more given the nature of his game and his size. Here are a few recent examples of players with meniscus injuries.

James Wiseman tore his meniscus almost one year ago to the date and still hasn't played.

Jaren Jackson Jr was out for 8-9 months with his meniscus tear.

Al Farouq Aminu tore his meniscus and also needed about a year recovery and never really came back from it. He was only 29 and coming off his best season as a pro when he tore it so it's not like he was on his last legs or anything.

Colin Sexton tore his at the beginning of the season and missed the entire year after resting for a period of time with no luck

Zion Williamson tore his in 2019 and has had a myriad of complications, including knee swelling since.

Dean Wade JUST had surgery on it after hoping it would heal after a period of rest and is not deemed out for the season.

If you can find another example of a guy coming back sooner than I'd love to know but to me, all signs point to him not being back till mid May at the earliest, which is the start of the conference finals. Thats only if he doesn't have to have surgery, which I haven't even seen an example of.

Strictly going off of recent history of this injury, Its more likely that he's done for the season than he comes back. I have no idea the extent or location of the tear though so obviously cant say anything with any level of confidence.
Go Knicks!

Next man up and all that jazz, but Rob is a huge loss, but I think it hurts more vs the 3-4 elite teams instead of their first round match up.

He wasn't even playing 30 minutes a game this year. He just has a combination of size, body, and athleticism that make injuries more common. I don't think you can blame this on the Celtics pushing their player's minutes. They run a short bench, but only have one guy that plays 35 minutes per game.

Its torn meniscus, hes not returning.

WTF you mean? Torn Meniscus is just about the least severe knee injury. He will be back for round 2

Damn, that's devastating. I liked Boston to come out of the East. Williams was the linchpin for their defensive scheme that no team in the NBA has been able to solve. That's some bull, Celtics could've won a title this year.

6 weeks usually is best case. It's possible he returns this season but not a lock.

Press F to doubt.

Source: I have had 3 meniscus tears. Embiid missed less than a week. It wildly depends on the severity but i'd guess he misses about a month to 5 weeks. Boston can get through a round no problem imo.

Seems like a weird thing to say about a team that has (is tied for) the most all time NBA championships.

He played through it, some do, but if it requires surgery, it's much longer.

If it requires surgery sure but no need to be a gloomer. The vast majority of meniscus tears heal without surgery.
