If there's one player that can cover for Wood defensively in the league it's AD. Wood can sit on the 3 point line and drain spot up 3's when the defense is crashing in on Bron and AD. It didn't work in Dallas because Dallas doesn't have an AD rim protector. I actually think they would be a perfect pairing kind of like how Cousins and AD worked a few years ago but to a lesser extent.

If he contributes to a winning team under the bright lights in LA I have no doubt he will get paid next season ala Monk and Schroder.

Miami could also fit this criteria. Apparently it's down to the Lakers and Miami. I still think Lakers would be a slightly better fit but next to Bam could work too.

He'd actually be pretty killer next to AD. If there's one thing he is good at on defense it's weak side shot blocking. Problem is he gets played at center too much because he has a pretty advanced post game. He's really an old school power forward with three point range which makes him a weird fit in this era. Ham's a better coach than Kidd so there might be a way to make it work

Lakers need defense and not more offense. Should’ve grabbed saric

There are a lot of poor defenders in the nba but they can't give you 20/10 on most nights. I just don't get it tbh. He should be a great 6th man in the worst case.

What is not to get? He's awful on defense and something is going on in the locker room for this many teams to pass on him. At some point its simply not worth the headache.

Saric isn't a defender... How does that sentence even make sense.

Shouldn't get Wood because he sucks at defense, get this other guy who sucks at defense.

You don't get how bad he is if this is your takeaway from it.

Anyone that has watched Wood play a lot will tell you that he sucks. 20/10 does not matter because those are the emptiest stats ever.

Rockets fans were telling hyped Mavs fans to calm down once they acquired him last year, for a reason.

Multiple bigs making MLE money would dream of his impact...
He's lost on defense, but can be a good help defender if motivated, and he's a ball stopper on offense who's not good enough to warrant it, but he's a good shooter, good rim runner, can score well in isolation, and OK rebounder, Kidd didn't like him and jerked him around, and he isn't the smartest or wisest of players so he didn't help his cause...

I wonder if Wood has been tested for amnesia.

1) Starts out trying on defense. Eventually stops trying. Combine that with not knowing where to be and…

2) Coach sits him because he screws up too much and doesn’t try…

3) Coach eventually plays him again but after a few games Wood forgets he needs to try on defense to stay on the floor and combined with terrible defensive IQ…

Repeat step 2) again. Rinse and repeat until every team says “f*ck this guy”

I actually thought he'd play really well on a real team with a pick and roll operator... And now they have no interest in bringing him back. Says a lot.

Can't even count on him to play hard on both ends in a contract year. He's a journeyman with a $.10 head.

Did mavs just notice about his bad defence or did they genuinely expect him to learn how to play defence at the age of 28?

Read my post above. His defense is NOT that bad, pretty much none of the defensive metrics paint him as any kind of horrible defender. At worst he's a slightly below average defensive player who you don't want matched up against large post up bigs, and is a bad one on one defender, but who actually does a decent job switching and has underrated help defense inside. He's simply too light weight. You ideally pair him with a defensive big who can take care of guarding the Jokic/Embiid's of the world. Unfortunately the Mavs don't have that kind of player to help cover some of his defensive weaknesses especially with Kleber out. Playing him at the C as the only big is equivalent to asking Luka to guard fast PG's. But Luka can do a more than decent job against 3's and even 4's especially on the block because he's super strong for his size.

Raptor and RPM both paint him as a pretty bad defender last year.
