Problem with your assertion is that he has achieved enormous success and is simply revelling in it. Because of his success is so enormous he appears narcissistic but he's just saying about himself what plenty of others would say and they say it constantly.

On twitter alone there is probably someone calling him the GOAT thousands of time a month.

I mean displaying narcissist tendencies shamelessly to the point that a bunch of his former fans make fun of him for it all the time and talk about how they wish he wasn't like that so they could actually respect him.

Someone calling you the GOAT is something to be proud of. You going on a marketing campaign of telling everyone you're the GOAT when it is at best very arguable is pathetic.

I think that's more a reflection of conservative cultures people are grown up in that teach them to not celebrate their success or be self-congratulatory. It comes out in this attack on people who freely celebrate themselves and I think it comes from a repressed place. That attitude keeps people down. It's sad, doesn't it make you sad?

It sounds like you're completely dismissing the idea of humility.

It's annoying that you devolve the conversation to basically "You're a sad person for attacking LeBron."

In your close minded universe, I don't believe he cares where he's ranked. He's given more to the game than Jordan ever did.

You damn right with those grammy award winning flops

Oh look we got a comedian on realgm, you should do stand-up Friday nights. Jordan did a whole lot of crying to the refs the entire 90's and was Stern's personal puppet as well. Jordan cried so much to the refs in the 90's the fouls per game on him decreased every season, you best off talking to one of these 20 year old members in here pal not everyone worships Jordan as if he walked on water and never missed a shot his entire career.

Brady has had even more success in the biggest sport in the country and not once have I ever heard him refer to himself as the “GOAT” or put a pretend crown on his head.

LeBron is just a tool; it’s ok to say.

There is actually a key difference here. Brady is pretty unanimously considered the greatest NFL player of all time. LeBron is actually not considered the GOAT by most people, most polls have Jordan ahead of him for fans and players polled. So Brady doesn't have to say anything. LeBron is actually out here campaigning for himself, not unlike a politician, to continue pushing the idea that he is the best to the next generation that didn't see Jordan mainly.

wonder where he learned that strategy

Yeah most of us were raised to downplay achievements but doesn't mean that's the right way to be. Have you never reflected back on why that's the case?

It's an old way of thinking.

LeBron is absolutely classless. It does take something away from him.

I've very much gone in the opposite direction where I always kinda hated him, not in an anti-fan way but more of a "**** this guy" whenever I see him talk kind of way. I tried to vibe with him more because there's only so many great basketballers to watch, but it's like trying to swim upstream sometimes.

I’ve really come around to appreciating Lebron the basketball player, but him continually begging for recognition and respect is just corny. Dude just projects insecurities when he does **** like this.

Its weird that Savannah wasn't immediately called out to back up her claims with PER, RAPM, VORP, WOWY, RAPTOR metrics. Guess the people at the ESPYs don't know basketball

Well he's been around for over 2 decades and has been the mainstream topic ever since he entered the league and was the best player in the league for over 15 years while at it. He's led 2 separate teams to 8 straight Finals and has won a championship for 3 separate organizations while piling up every award there is practically(Should have a DPOY but the league decided to give it to Marc Gasol who was not better than LeBron statistically by any stretch of the imagination defensively).

I can go on and on just not interested in convincing you Jordan lunatics otherwise.

Honestly, there's a lot of celebrities who engage in narcissistic behaviour because it's a smart business decision to do so. I personally think of people's public persona as being akin to the ring personality that a professional wrestler will adopt. If something gets people talking, I generally assume that that's a business decision. Obviously there are exceptions and points where I detect genuine insecurity and instability (Ja Morant lol) but I'd generally recommend this approach.

I actually started rooting for him when I felt he was some sort of underdog leading those Cavs teams vs a superteam in Boston, and being treated unfairly by media and fans, who were labeling him as a loser back then. I mean, he did kind of gave up vs the Celtics, but he was doing a hell of a carryjob.

His choking vs dallas made me root even more for him. Again, I felt he was getting disproportional heat in view of The Decision - he actually respected his contract, he never promised anything. I get the pain from Cavs fans, but definitely not the general bizarre hate.

So I just cant help rooting for him. I see these acts as silly, corny, just a disingenous form of self promotion. He does lack self awareness, and seems to have superficial takes on stuff. It does take something away from his legend - hes not an interesting persona. But not much more than that.

Its not a matter of ego btw. All these guys have absurd egos, and for good reason. They are worshipped and amazingly successful, while still young. Its just a matter of satisfying your ego/self promoting / self celebrating in a silly way.

Jordan on the othee hand indeed was the epitome of class when managing media and public. Kobe in his later years was wise and self conscious. They are just smarter imho.

Still rooting for Lebron though.

Btw, I still see Lebron as some sort of underdog when it comes to the GOAT discussion. While I know that Jordan is probably a better player (debatable), and definitely had a better career (to some degree debatable) and was more popular, I keep pushing for LeBron to approach him and make it an even hotter discussion.

I love seeing people defend and argue for him btw.

There’s no way he didn’t plan out that “Lucky for you guys” line in advance. So unless he’s totally clueless, it had to have occurred to him how ridiculous that line was. He may have thought it was funny. All things Lebron are cringe. His basketball ability is only exceeded by his cringe factor.

The only thing I've ever seen from the ESPYs was Norm MacDonald's stand-up monologue from like 25 years ago.

Do they REALLY have a category for "Best record-breaking performance"?

...Or was it just made up to give LeBron SOMETHING so he'd show up and make his """dramatic""" announcement?
