Me? No, I dont know more about basketball than Sheed. The videos however do. When the videos contradict Sheed, he's wrong, not the videos. We can see what actually happeneded in games instead of relying on flawed memories warped by agendas.

Haha I was being sarcastic. I think relying on player's opinion's as your only point is ridiculous. Isiah Thomas is an all time great and also the all time bad GM. MJ is an all timer and also an all time bad GM/owner. Just because they played doesn't mean their opinion is worth a damn.

Also, who broke this thread?

Former players are terrible with what rule changes are driving the game. Shaq freaking watches the NBA and comments on it, and yet can't grasp why "pre screening" doesn't stop 3 point shooting. It's not that former players don't know anything about basketball. But they are expects on their era. So when they see the game the way it is today...they aren't going to be good at realizing what rules changed the game. They'll just go to what they recall impacting them and they know changed.

That said...Sheed is about the last nba player who'd advice I'm listening to on the game. Now...he's still likely a good big man skill coach.

I must have a different definition of what "hand-checking " is. For me it is/was a situation where the defender was faced up with a usually dribbling ball handler and poked a hand in and through the opposing players hand/s to get through to the ball.

What we see a lot more today with offensive players trying to avoid this is to use their shoulder / arm to sheild off the hand-check and drive through it

Hand-checking is not putting a hand on a hip to absorb contact. It was an on ball tactic. Hard for the ref to call foul when what they mostly see is a ball poked loose. Problem with hand-checking was that it was used by the defender to interupt the O player's dribble by constantly making contact with their dribbling hand

The NBA adjusted by calling as soon as the defender poked their hand into the dribblers hand... at least that's how I see it

Hand checking, defensive 3 seconds, travels/carries and illegal screens are the holy quaternity of the modern flow.

On the other hand, there was the legalization of zone defenses, but just that alone doesn't offset almost nothing.

The NBA zone is a garbage zone since you can't really play zone due to the defensive 3 second violation rule.
