Wemby is unreal defensively. Blocks a 3 every game and it’s insane how players won’t even try a pull up jumper when he’s around. His whole gravity on the floor is insane

Where's Eason? He's been unreal better than DD and I like DD, he 100% gambles too much.

I’ve always believed big men shouldn’t win DPOY. You shouldn’t get an award just because you’re big/tall.

That makes absolutely no sense. Bigs don't win the award just because they're "big/tall." They win more often because they tend to be the player that anchors a team's defense. Plenty of big/tall guys in the NBA that are terrible on D

So should you reward the perimeter defender that’s busting his ass 90+ feet without the huge physical gifts, or the guy just manning a quarter of the court?

If you look at all players in the league who have played at least 10 games this season (Chet has played exactly 10) and average at least 20 MPG this season here are the best rim protectors in the league.

1. Chet Holmgren (42.9% allowed at the rim)
2. Isaiah Stewart (43.6% allowed at the rim)
3. Victor Wembanyama (46.3% allowed at the rim)
4. PJ Washington (50.5% allowed at the rim)
5. Brook Lopez (51.0% allowed at the rim)
6. Amen Thompson (52.2% allowed at the rim)
7. Jarren Jackson Jr (52.5% allowed at the rim)
8. Jalen Williams (52.8% allowed at the rim)

Perimeter defenders do get rewarded. Plenty of them have won DPOY. Regardless of your opinion, generally speaking big men have always had a bigger impact on D than perimeter defenders. That's just a fact. The award is Defensive Player of the Year, not Defender Who Busted His Ass the Most on the Perimeter :-?

Also lol at "without huge physical gifts." Perhaps relatively to the big men, sure. But these are the most physically gifted athletes in the world.

Yes they are compared to average people, but in the NBA everyone is pretty athletic. Look at Gobert, he’s not even close to a better defender than people like Dort, Jrue etc. He’s just big yet has how many DPOYS? Ridiculous.

Perimeter D is harder, period. They should win 99% of the time.

Nearly half of his games were against lottery teams. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a good defender but 10 games is way too small of a sample size. Seeing the Thunder win 9 out of 10 without him shows he’s more of a luxury for them while yes, a good defender

Also doesn't seem like the Thunder are missing him on D at all - they're collectively crushing it still and are the best defensive team in the NBA

Presti out here playing NBA 2k. Legit just grabbed Bucks Bogut/Grizzlies Gasol insert into the starting lineup which was already scary defensively then added the best perimeter defender in the comp in Caruso

Also Eason should be lock for All Defensive 1st dude is a mix of Grant/Kawhi

Update:
Caruso
White/Holiday
OG
Eason
Mobley/Wemby

DD
JDUB
Brown/White/Holiday
Thompson
Mobley/Wemby/Gobert

HM: Hartenstein, Dort

Not much changing just adding in a couple guys. If you like defence this is one heck of a year for it.

Wemby is basically the only guy in the NBA who can make a mistake (jump on a pump fake, get caught flat footed, be late on a rotation) and still make a monster defensive play. He's like having 2 defenders.

The play against Sabonis at 1:02 on this video is the perfect example of that. He had no business blocking that shot. Sabonis got him totally turned around so that his back was actually to him at one point, and yet he still somehow spun in time and got a hand on the ball. Just ridiculous.
