People bring up children. That's unnecessary because one shouldn't be swearing even in front of adults. It's coarse and uncivilized. Sure there are times when one can be sympathetic but overuse is a general sign of low standards.

May I ask what region you live in? I'm genuinely curious for the cultural info.
That is definitely not real life everywhere.
All human life on the earth is like grass, and all human glory is like a flower in a field. The grass dries up and its flower falls off, but the Lord’s word endures forever.

It would be nice if they realized that they're role models and tried not to cuss in front of young fans.
That said, they are professional athletes in their early 20's, so I'm not gonna hold them to a very high standard.

All good man. I wouldn’t want that either. Leave the curse words at home.

I can tell you Jayson Tatum wouldn’t do that and he’s in his 20s

Sure... and we've seen those "standards" of communication and decorum change in many ways, beyond the world of sports.
Check out how some world leaders share their messages now compared to the usual "standards." And it goes beyond tone or whatever. Even misspellings or incoherency are nearly entirely dismissed or ignored now.
Heck, over Christmas, I had a discussion with teenagers about how using punctuation in text messages is nearly universally considered "a sign of anger/frustration" or even "rude."
I didn't ask what me actually spelling full words indicated...
I've been called "cold," because I text with proper grammar. It's a hard habit to break because it was developed for all of the right reasons.

If you were being interviewed by the media as a representative of your company would you be dropping f bombs? Be honest now.
not me per se but my boss would say "poop" and "darn" in outward facing interviews (he's published in magazines, does youtube interviews, etc.)
This is 2025. You can show some personality. I'd be shocked if someone didn't cuss a little bit.

Clearly the fine isn't high enough. 1 million per swear word, would be more effective.

But the religious right pretends that they should never be used or heard. Meanwhile murder and violence is prime time fare. But fine for 100k. Get your priorities straight.
I want to agree with you on principle about parental responsibility but there are a lot of parents who have no idea what they're doing and suck at the job. Like, well, Anthony Edwards for example.
Then their jerk kids grow up and leave the house and we all have to deal with them. So I'd prefer pro athletes not being idiots and making kids even bigger jerks.
We've gotta have rules and boundaries for some things or society stops functioning. The Social Contract and all that. I'll try not to cuss in front of your kid and you try not to cuss in from of mine, please. It's just basic decency.
Why would you care about Anthony Edwards and his parents when you have one job, your kids.
Or are you really trying to eliminate/supress swearing from all of culture so your kids don't hear it? That's impossible. You don't need to focus on more rules on swearing, you've got some bigger issues down there getting ignored.
And dude... you already have a swear filter on me right now in type!!! **** !

People who think there are such things as "bad" words or "curse" words were brainwashed as a child. You're compressing your diaphragm to express gas from your lungs through your vocal cords.

Very immature. Some of these guys need to grow up especially Lamelo Ball. He's a phenomal player but his interviews is like a 14 year old child it's ridiculous. You're getting paid substantial amount of money, pull your pants up and act professional like most major employed people do. I get that we're human and sometimes emotions get the best of us, so once or twice I can understand, but when it's a recurring thing it's like dude come on relax, this is not life or death here chill out. These times we're in, society has dumbed down alot. Carry yourself like a true professional and gentlemen, it'll go a long way and ppl will give you the benefit of the doubt in case of certain situations. Just my theory

It's okay to send bombs to a country and drop them on children, women, and men...innocent civilians but God forbid someone swears on TV.

Re: What's your opinion of players casually swearing on live tv interviews?
I’ve changed my view on cursing over the last few years.
To begin with, I don’t curse. My friends mock me for it, but that’s ok. To me it always felt like a choice to be potentially offensive, and a crutch for people who aren’t smart enough to learn better descriptive adjectives and adverbs. But unlike most people like me, I don’t care if others curse. I believe people should express themselves however they want, and the limitations I put on myself should never be put on others.
Like many things in life, I had to rethink things when I had kids. Before they were teenagers, I impressed upon them my view. However, as they got older, they demonstrated to me that sometimes the most accurate way to communicate is with a curse word. Accurately getting an idea inside your head across to another person is hard enough, without artificially limiting the words you can use to do it.
——
When Ant curses, I feel like I’m honestly hearing who he is, and what he thinks. The NBA may be struggling for popularity because most players give canned interviews that never say anything, and it bores fans. Why cheer for these artificial white-washed personalities that all say the same things, and act the same way?
If the NBA fines Ant, I don’t think it’s a problem - he will make more money back by being who he is, when he markets his brand.

I'm sure some will think the league went too far, however, is it that hard to refrain from swearing in what is technically a professional setting for them?
I feel most of us are able/expected to control our language when in a work setting.
NBA Twitter level fandom is still so weird to me. I lose track of whether fans are mad because "player empowerment" has ruined the game, or not letting the players do whatever they want has ruined the game. If we're gonna be obnoxiously reductive can we at least pick a single direction? Both things cant be true

You can say whatever you want and there also can be repercussions for saying those words.
I don’t give a **** about swearing but I also know what situations I shouldn’t do it. We have spoken and unspoken rules in society and it is what it is.

Re: What's your opinion of players casually swearing on live tv interviews?
I don't think it's bad really but there's one fault with it...kids watch as well and it's a bit unprofessional in that regard. They are forced to do these interviews however and I kind of like seeing them be themselves in them. But unfortunately young people think athletes are role models in our culture. Putting a ball through a hoop doesn't make you a hero or a smart/good person in general, some are some aren't. But honestly kids hear much worse at school every day regardless. Our society is so soft and sheltered tbh let it rip imo. If you are a great athlete who puts family first, stays out of trouble, but lets the odd swear out to convey a message it's whatever I guess. That's a good enough example to me and swearing is just words and a part of real life. It's how adults talk and I don't see anything wrong with it. Podcasts are becoming so popular for such reasons, people can see players talk how they normally talk without a media filter.
