Luka is about to go full James Harden next year. You never go full James Harden.

Cost of living, my man. Living 6.5 years in Asia taught me that exchange rates tell you nothing about how far money goes in a given economy. There are some places where you can live like a prince on "$2,000" a month, and others where'd you'd probably be homeless and hungry on "$2,000" a month.

I used to hear "people in Africa live on a dollar a day" and think "so they're lucky to eat once a month?" No, meals cost less than 50 cents where they live.

I'm no economist, but like I said, I have a lot of firsthand experience with this phenomenon. You feel it differently when you live somewhere and have to pay for everything (rent, phone bill, insurance, documents, generic clothing, etc.) at local rates, as opposed to when you travel.

This.
+ you want to attract the top 1% professional in that field.
I would guess the Top 1% of software engineers get probably $1M+ total comp yearly. Senior/staff professionals easily earn $400K and $500K TC in the biggest IT corps out there, and not only in the Bay Area - while the average or median pay for their profession is much lower.
Top 1% doctors - the same.
Hey, the top 1% of pro basketball players earn millions, while the median one probably plays in some German second division club, earning $100K tops or whatever. Look even at G-League vs NBA salary difference.

Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for an NBA team, taking care of assets with $200M annual salary? Yea, such a guy should demand a lot, you can't settle for someone average.
Comparing to whatever average or median salary - is irrelevant, just like comparing the end of the bench player salary to the median salary in LA. I mean, it's not that far fetched to say a good to great Head Strength & Conditioning Coach might have a bigger effect on the tea's season than some min salary garbage time player.
On top of that:
Hours: Ability to work flexible schedule; available to work evenings, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required

It's crazy. If you're a family man, you do it for a couple of years tops just to be part of that journey.
Also:

Also, working for the Lakers would obviously be a dream for many.
https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/strength

Great link. There are 55 professionals (in colleague football only!) earning more than $250K yearly with probably much less travel and majority of them living in much cheaper areas.

top 1% professional in that field should make that much more I agree, but as a sports franchise, you probably know these specialists by name, this is literal online job application just any other random job, they will pick best candidate from many that will apply, but I would not compare it to Luka Doncic level top 1% professional, or Chip Engelland or whoever. If they are looking for that, they would offer money to specific people already, that truly are 1% pros, not open online job application, I mean seriously.
WHen you are billion dollar business, you do not hire top 1% pros by posting online applications lol.

No, you definitely do.
There are probably at least 50K people in US only that could do that job. 1% of them are still 500 people, many of them are probably currently employed.
Meta, Google, Amazon and others still post online applications to attract the top talent in almost any field, even for positions paying over $500K. It's the top executives positions where it happens less, if at all.
In example, E6 at Meta pays $680K yearly (TC) in US for Software Engineer - I guess it's comparable to Staff/Principle in other places.
https://www.levels.fyi/t/software-engineer?compare=Nvidia%2CAmazon%2CFacebook&countryId=118
It's definitely the top 1% of the field (not in Meta itself, but in general IT sector), and it's a job you land when applying either online or through friends inside - but it's still posted online.

edit: also, Luka might be top 1% in NBA, but in the broad "pro basketball player" meaning he is a top 0.001% probably. Every end of the bench NBA player and every Euroleague player are way inside the top 1% of their field. The difference is it's relatively easy to compare basketball players, while for a fitness coach once he passes the qualification requirements it's hard to decide who's better - it's more about the fit with the team, some personal traits he brings (that might be fitting Lakers but be less important for a college team in example).

Luka doesn't need to take this ****. He should come to Toronto. He can be fat here and no one will judge him.

I'm mostly kidding, but his "flu" in the Lakers series is very suspicious.

It wasn't a flu though, but a stomach illness. Even supported by the fact he went to locker room for an extended time and was late for the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
There is enough stuff to hate about Luka (and I say it as Luka fan), no need to create/report false narratives like that.

Ok, I see. I mean I have no problem for a guy on a Lakers making money, from what was replied to me, this is not even that big of a salary by LA standards, I just wanted to say that it sounds very much to me who just lives in third world Euro country basically. But I mean it is all relative, I heard how much people in Cuba makes, and yeah, the number are far worse compared to even us.

As a person who currently looking for a job, I browse all local things, and yeah, our salaries even for super high end specialists is night and day compared to this. Highest monthly salary I could ever find would be like 5000 Euros, thats a lot, and it is like for large language model programming leads over here. I have seen one application yesterday, where man, I feel these guys had no shame posting that, because they are hiring for leadership role, and their offer was 850-999 Euros per month, this number including bonus... I can't imagine who would apply for that job, because its basically the same money as cleaning guy gets, and they are looking for department leader who will work for 850 Euros a month, maybe even less without bonus, thats the most ridiculous offer I have seen in a while. I don't know what is exactly minimum wage here now is, but it is around this, it is probably over 700 Euros now after tax.

Time will tell, but I won't be at all surprised if after his career we hear about Luka's partying being a problem.

Denver also had a stomach bug going around the team during the Clippers series this year.

Cool, I'm not arguing about LT salaries, I'm fully aware of it. It's better that other former Soviet countries, but still not on Western Europe level.
Been to Vilnius once, one of my favorite euro cities, would be glad to come back with my family again (was there alone for work almost a decade ago).

Guy is Overwatch main, his work ethic problems probably lie under different circumstances, partying is last generation, now guys just eat pizza and play Overwatch

He plays for Slovenia every summer, and I wonder how his body will last, did not end well for guys like Marciulionis or Yao (yao was 7'6 granted...), but we can't deny he has a problem, because its been numerous summers where we debated how playing FIBA is good for him, because otherwise he would be very overweight by ever October... Usually, teams and team fans hate when their guys play FIBA games.

Sorry for derailing a thread. I am not a big fan of Vilnius, but I never really go to nice places, I always around bus station and such, and its a dirty craphole the whole place  I live in small resort town, our town is freaking beautiful, like EU money did not come to waste, it is not comparable at all to a dirty city.

What's a treadmill going to do? Cardio is not the means of losing weight if that's the implication, weight training is superior. If it's a weight thing you're referencing, it's about what he does in the kitchen.

Cardio is more effective for pure weight loss than weight training. Obviously diet matters more than anything

Luka as a professional athlete should already be getting good cardio and he isn't sedentary. For a sedentary person of course adding daily cardio will drop weight until they reach the equilibrium point and it no longer does anything for weight loss, though still good for health. Weight training would also do the same, combination is ideal if course, but I lean more to weights for people looking for weight loss, also due to the added body composition change benefits even when their actual weight doesn't change, as well as metabolism benefits. But cardio is good for the heart, so it should be done too, but wouldn't be my primary recommendation for weight loss focus.

We tend to see that people focusing on weights lose the same amount of weight as cardio only or combination, but they are able to do so while also consuming about 100-200 more calories, meaning if you also honed in the diet to be the same, they might lose more on average.

Cardio during the actual session of course burns more calories than weight training, but increasing muscle mass uses more at rest. You can also only do so much cardio before you hit the equilibrium where it does nothing for losing weight. Luka from playing games gets more than enough cardio.

When people hit the equilibrium, many people think, I should just do more cardio, which if you can, maybe it will work, though for many you get the compensatory effect. More cardio, but more tired through the rest of the day and do less other movement during the day which you usually do, and then eat just a little more (a little additional small snack), and it negates the additional calorie burn.

Then they think, I just need to do even more cardio, but it doesn't work and they are plateaud, and the diet and increasing muscle mass is actually what they need.

Luka actually probably already has pretty good muscle mass too, but increased muscle mass which should cause increased metabolism is possibly still more beneficial for his case, though really it's probably 90% diet at this stage for him.

Luka needs to go 6 days a week weights - 7 days a week cardio - intermittent fasting - deep caloric deficit for a month or a little more- just to get realllly nice and tight before any serious basketball training.

What you said is true but tough - you gotta really be dialed in to have 100 calories impact your weight - because 100 calories is less than one beer or a hand full of raisins lol - it’s tough out here !

What will motivate him most is when Flagg takes the team he built to the playoffs with AD.

The crazy thing is - kyrie, AD, Flagg, Lively and KD could be their roster next year Even without KD they could be decent - Nico and Adam Silver - wow

He just needs to train. I don't think it has to be anything insane. Just what you would expect from a world class athlete at the top of his profession. Skill wise there is no issue. He needs to invest the time in his body and eating habits.

All of these Luka conditioning talk since he joined the Lakers, are at an all time high. The Lakers are desperate to try and get their point across to Luka, but I'm not sure if this is the way to go with most of them going public. I'm just wondering what's he thinking about all of this and how would he respond (training camp)? That's the key question here guys.

He can respond by joining Denver for example. They are ok with their leader as long as he is the best guy on the floor and doesn't get hurt because of his body shape.

This is what Luka bring them: stats, wins, durability.

Previously people blamed Luka for not letting Porzingis shine. So, this surge of myriad of acquisitions from talking heads and random guys from internet is nothing new.

From 2018 to 2024 Luka was considered a very strong and durable player (plus showed great pain tolerance in the playoffs), now Nico made trolls think that despite winning and picking up stats Luka is worse then a Steve Blake.
