We’re slowly building out a respectable bench. Smart, Vincent, Knect, La Ravia. We need more bigs and more shooting, but this is a decent makeshift team around Luka.

Yup, again, Smart is basically just Tony Allen. Clearly some younger fans here, but after Boston and Memphis, he faded into obscurity. This isn't a slam, but it's just a reality of players like this. Smart after Boston, just following that same path. Similar to a Jae Crowder or Robert Covington, they all had a really coveted skill for a couple of years, but after that singular skill faded... they basically are at best 7-8th men on any roster.
This is why Smart is an absolutely fine deal. But in todays NBA, $5.5 mil is basically the vet min, and Smart isn't worth more than that.

People talking about health, age, etc.
You do realize he probably had no motivation playing for the Wizards, right?
I bet he'll come in fully prepared to play his ass off for a contender under the bright lights.
And he knows he's playing for his next and maybe last contract.
He'll be rejuvenated with something to prove.

This is a good signing like Ayton was because, like Ayton, he gives them some of what they previously had exactly zero of. Even if Smart and Ayton are minimal impact players, what they are replacing are zero or negative impact players.

Man, you are clueless on aging.
You can be "rejuvenated" mentally and emotionally, but on legs that are shot from wear and tear, that **** does NOT matter.

Basically.
I'll push back, Ayton isn't a "minimal" impact player. Their C play was nonexistent last year. Ayton isn't AS level, but he's solid when he tries. He will have an actual impact.
Smart? He'll give you a handful of good minutes in certain specific situations where defense is needed. Smart was a net negative offensively, so he'll never see the court when the team needs to score. But in situations where the need to lock down defensively, he will give the team some solid 5-15min and that's all that should be expected of him.
This "rejuvenation" talk is nonsense. He wasn't even a top 3 player on his own team in his real prime and constantly shot 3-13 from 3. Boston fans will back me up, Smart routinely shot that team OUT of games.
Smart will be a totally fine specialist when the team needs him, but anyone expecting more are living in the **** past. He'll give some good defensive spot minutes and that's it.
If you get 6pts a game from him, you should be doing **** backflips lmao.

Very different players though. Paul would be unhappy when the lion share of the ball is in Luka, LeBron or Reaves hands.
We have players that do what paul does only they do it better. There's no reason for the Lakers to have interest in him, heck does any team have interest in an almost 40 year old undersized point guard who has a nice history of injuries? Smart on the other hand is only 31,and defense is about effort. He brings more to the table than cp3 at this stage in their careers.
Sure. I truly don't care enough to have a back and forth over a guy with as little left in the tank as Paul or Smart.
Both will be rotational players who won't hurt you, but if you're in a big moment, both will be liabilities a la Conley.
If you're happy about the Smart signing, enjoy it! Don't care about Paul? You shouldn't, he wasn't gonna be that helpful anyway! All these statements are true.
Uh I wasn't responding to you, I was posting to Slava.

Lol, I know Celtics fans will be really grossed out to see him in purple and yellow. I didn't realize he's only 31

Smart is a 6'3 guard who threw his body around and relied on athleticism. These players age the worst out of any type of NBA players. So many of the are toast once they lose just a bit of that athleticism.

Re: [Shams] Marcus Smart to the L.A. Lakers 2 years/$11 million, after Wizards buyout
A small trade like Knecht and Vincent to the Bulls for Issac Okoro and a second round pick makes a little sense. Seems like it would do everyone good to trade Knecht so he can get his confidence back somewhere else. Even if he doesn't last much longer in the league, sometimes we just need a fresh start somewhere else. It opens up the roster depth a bit positionally for everyone involved and the Bulls save a bit of money going into next season.
Shows Smart he's getting ample playing time, and if he doesn't work out, then they can cross that bridge if it ever nears. Okoro gets situational minutes depending on how he and Jake LaRavia are ballin'. For the Bulls, Knecht gets a little burn in a high-paced offense and Vincent might be lucky to fill in for one of the most lopsided rosters for guards in the NBA.

Lakers are well ahead of the Rockets and with the Nuggets as the primary challengers to the Thunder in the West. Luka / LeBron and Reaves can carry the offense and Ayton / Smart provide big defensive upgrades.

Lakers have 16 now. Need to cut someone. Probably Goodwin

1000000000000000000%
Jae Crowder, Tony Allen, Robert Covington, Gerald Wallace... these were all really good players for a time, but they fell off a **** cliff in their early 30s and did so because of their play.
Which is why I said this isn't a bad signing by the Lakers, but man, what you're gonna get is not impressive.
Lakers are bottom feeding for rotation players right now... AND THATS NOT A BAD THING... but keep expectations in check.

Uhh no they aren’t. Marcus Smart has played a grand total of 51 games in the past THREE years and was barely good when he played.
Jokic would destroy Ayton. lol at picking the Lakers over the Nuggets. Genuine lol.
