So Greece's highest scoring Q was lower than Turkey's lowest? Oof.

Dont think anyone would have a face to complain about free throws after that performance

Osmani was the MVP of the game by far. Came out shooting flamethrowers and was active defensively. If you have that hot a start in a FIBA game it's super-difficult to come back from. Kudos to the Turks for playing with force and pace. Our perimeter plays were getting destroyed at the point of attack which opened up the lane for Larkin and Osman. Just a brutal matchup. I would've personally started the game with Kostas Antetokounmpo and maybe even Kalaitzakis instead of Dorsey. Their defense, length and athleticism may have made a difference early in the game. Dorsey is only useful as a spot up shooter, he's weak with the ball and gets lost on defense and Sloukas (who played admirably) is just older (as is Papanikolaou).

I still would like to see a bronze medal. No shame in that.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I feel as though Spanoulis would have needed to take 3 timeouts within the first 12 minutes of the game just to slow down Turkey's rhythm.

No sane coach would do that, but that's just how hot Turkey was and how cold Greece was too.

It was obviously more logical to assume that Greece would regain its composure, while Turkey would cool down in the 2nd quarter already. However, that never ended up happening.

Ataman the great.
He deserves the gold. It will cement his legacy as the best coach outside the NBA in the last 4-5 years.
Turkey deserves the gold.
It won't be easy but for me, it's the best team.
Hopefully my crush Cedi will be euro champion on Sunday.

Now defunct Banvitspor found and developed Sengun and Hazer essentially from rural Turkey and Osmani from Albania.

Maybe they still would have become great players but after Ataman they probably deserve the most credit.

Greece, in my opinion, has been quite underwhelming in the Giannis era.

But GZ to Turkey. They're having a really good tournament.

The good players aged out. Wish we had Diamantidis, Spanoulis, Sloukas and Printezis in their primes playing with prime Giannis. Such is life.

A bronze medal in this tournament is a good result for us. Wish we showed up today but oh well

You just need 3 and D players around Giannis, players like Sloukas,Papanikolau and Mitoglu cant play defence like they cant even move their feet on the defence, also they cant answer the high ball pressure from Turkiye which resulted many turnovers for Greece

Yea bronze would be a nice result for this team. I feel as though the dark ages will approach post Giannis though. But basketball culture and tradition are strong in Greece. Thus, you guys will always be competitive.

He was amazing today, main defender on Giannis and held him to 12 points also dropped 28 on other end like you said .

|Just disappointed in Lauri. I thought he would feast on shorter defenders and bully them to the hoop. He is practically the tallest player in the court.

Oh well. Giannis vs Lauri on paper is a good draw

Bonga came into the league as a point guard cause that's what he played in Germany. Had they pushed him more towards being a 3 and D player, maybe he could have stuck as a rotational.

Of course, there were multiple defenders on Lauri, not just Bonga.

for Alpie's personal diary, first beating Jokic's Serbia in the group stage and then crushing Giannis' Greece in semi final (despite a 0/8 start - 2 of them clear fouls not given while he was being pulled back).. that's hell of a story. unbeaten Eurobasket winner would be some line on the resume. I always knew he'd be an NBA all-star now I'm not saying he'll be an MVP one day but he'll certainly start getting some serious top 5 votes in the next half decade as long as he remains healthy.

I said the same to my friends. Honestly, I would've started Kostas alongside Giannis and maybe even Kalaitzakis alongside Sloukas instead of Dorsey. Youth, athleticism and defense could've helped. This way you'd have some resistance inside and on the perimeter. Mitoglou can't jump over a phone book and Dorsey is a spot up shooter who gets lost on defense. The further out I get the more I realize making the semis with a chance to bronze is still a great accomplishment. Just feel bad for Sloukas and Papanikolaou who probably are playing their last international games.

A bit misleading. Turkey made sure to have 2-3 defenders anytime Giannis got anywhere close. They knew going in, contain Giannis and force their slower perimeter players to beat us. Ataman outcoached Spanoulis. Osmani was their offensive MVP opening on fire NBA Jam style. Between Larkin and Hazer blowing past our guards and him, it put Giannis in a bind defensively. Kudos to Turkey they've been the most impressive team this tournament.

Thats why i said "main" defender , Ataman's plan was to put Osmani on Giannis and bring help defence when he gets close to basket, still he was the main guy on Giannis and managed to put up 28 points, great performance .

Welp, that was a shellacking. Their defense just crushed us and we had no response.
