Giannis....

Main reasons - the mainstream media doesn't pay much attention to how the Bucks played without Dame out and with certain lineups they were playing extremely well(i.e, Giannis, KPJ, Green, Trent Jr, Portis) Fast lineup, great shooting, really good defense. Now add Turner to that mix..... The Bucks are a very good team. Giannis will get MVP looks due to the illusion that he has no help, but this is the best team from an analytical standpoint he has had around him in a few years.

The Bucks won't be good enough for Giannis to win it, and he won't have the 'story' or 'next big thing' hype either. Jokic, Shai and Wemby are the clear favorites here.

They have a ceiling of like 4th seed in the East. It won't be good enough with this level of competition.

So Giannis' team winning 46-48 games or whatever won't be good enough to win MVP (weird that it was good enough for Jokic in '22) but the entire last page here has been Wemby talk despite pretty much everyone still agreeing that Spurs team isn't gonna sniff 50-wins this year? Huh.

You can sleepwalk through East and win 48 games by just beating trash and be some .45 win rate team reast of a way.

Just beat Wizards, Hornets, Nets and last year's 76ers to secure 16 wins.

Orlando Magic team in 2023-24, with bunch of kids, with two best players being babies, won 47 games because they were 28-7 vs sub .500 teams, and despite being terrible (19-28) vs good teams , they still ended up with 47 wins.

On West you simply don't have that many trash teams to beat. This year in particular difference between quality of West & East is jawdropping.

You can make case that somebody who won't be allstar on West would probably be top 3-4 best player on East (last year it was case with Booker ).

Ok Shams their ceiling is as high as Giannis takes them and it will be more than a 4th seed but that’s why they play the games. There is only two teams that might have a better record then the bucks this year and that’s not even a given. Bucks will win over 50 games book it

The only way they don’t win over 50 gams is a freak injury like KPJ had last nite who is a better fit next to Giannis then Dame was. But even with out for a little bit they are better then you think so you bookmark it too

You're already strawmanning. I never said anything about winning 50 games. The 4th seed in the East last year won 50 games. Everything I said would still be right.

I said over 50 games my prediction got this team healthy was 58 wins I doubt that will be 4th seed

wemby might win 10 straight if he stays healthy, starting this year. voters will get wemby fatigue as they always do with dominant players, but he will be so much better than everybody else, it won't matter.

I choose SGA but I think it could be any of 4 other guys---ranked in this order dependent on wins...Jokic, Giannis, Luka then Wemby.

I think SGA is going to have a chance if they win 60 games and he is has similar numbers as last year.. If Jokic gives you the perfect stats people may vote for Jokic because he will be worthy of another MVP to put him in the rarest air possible as a 5 time MVP... If giannis wins 50 games with that roster and has the same stats as last year he will have a strong chance. If Luka has the numbers that he had 2 years ago...wins scoring title on great splits AND the lakers win 55 games...then he has a chance...but if wemby goes for 33+ 10+ 3 blocks...he is going to win the MVP!!!

I’m just glad Shai and the Thunder have their hardware.

Not sure about the team around him, but Wemby literally looks like a camp counselor swatting campers.

its only one game but Jokic looks out of shape. Murray also appeared to be handling the ball more in the new Adelman offense which could hurt his numbers.

Luka will put up monster numbers but i dont think the Lakers get a top 6 seed which will hurt his chances

right now it looks like SGA is the early favorite to repeat as MVP, with Giannis and Wemby following behind him.

this is a good question for THIS YEAR,,,and puts a light on why the mvp shouldn't necessarily be "the best player"

i have always held that i love the egalitarian subjective voting of mvp

i don't give a sh** who wins. i can tell you now they are ALL worthy,,,even if one player has a ballzout GREAT statline.

sga, curry, jokic, wemby, giannis, and luka all hit a special note for their team
a better question is who'll be left off the 1st team all-pro

People should not underestimate how important it is to establish a narrative and produce highlight performances early in the season. That sets the tone and it becomes more difficult to join the race and delays exiting the race in the middle of the season. So the next ~10 games will already tell us a lot about where the race is going IMO.

I'm also expecting half of the players in contention based on their on-court performance to drop out of the race due to not reaching the necessary games threshold. Though of course I hope I'll be proven wrong.
