Being able to defer absurd amounts of salary because there's effectively no cap or floor in MLB is bad for baseball. Put the Dodgers and the other teams that outspend everyone else because they can on equal footing by instituting a cap and then let's see just how much talent they can acquire and how far they'll go.
"Super teams" and out of control spending are problematic and generally don't guarantee anything. My Suns are a prime example of that.

Same. I dont watch baseball much, but the last couple of years since the Dodgers got Ohtani I started watching more and trying to actually learn the sport. In contrast ive actually have not been as involved as I used to be with the NBA the last couple of years.
My opinion, but it feels like baseball has retaken basketball in terms of overall popularity the last couple of years. I thought basketball was in the lead during 2000s-2010s. More people that I meet know more about baseball recently.
Your feeling is correct. The world series ratings demolished the NBA Finals ratings. It wasn't even close.
And I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime, but the Lakers have been overtaken in Los Angeles. The dodgers have been more popular for a few years now, even before Ohtani. But the addition of Shohei has brought a lot more eyes. Let's be honest, he's a much more likeable and charismatic superstar than LeBron and still in his prime.
But now with Luka here and Lebron's time coming to an end, it feels like the Lakers are back on the rise again.

I love that you hate LeBron so much that he singlehandedly made you stop watching your Lakers for 7 seasons and counting

Well, the construct of an attempted super team, paired with a moronic owner, are directly related to PHX's problems. It may directly not correlate to the Heat, Warriors, or any other team that fits that criteria, but to say it's not problematic is a bit shortsighted. Alas, your opinion and take on it is your own and I respect it for what it is.

The idea of the super team wasn't their problem.
Their selection of players, their money management, THOSE things were the problem. Everyone always wants to add the best talent they can. That's been a thing for the entirety of NBA history. Stacking stars for maximum success is not new, and is not a product of Lebron or any of that other idiocy which people have peddled the past 15 years or so.
The particulars of how Phoenix managed their situation was very far from a new thing. The idea that it has to do with superteams is just... ignorant of NBA history, at best.

As I said, your opinion is taken for what it is. Nothing more. The idea that the "superteam" concept would work in PHX WAS a problem, and that problem has put us where we are now. Forcing a bad collection of players to try and work together was an absolutely asinine idea. The gutting of the team to make it happen was just the icing on top.
So, seeing I'm "ignorant" in your eyes, use this opportunity to educate me on what, pray tell, is how it is as it relates to "superteams?" Spare me nothing. Tell me all there is to know.

You can thank the Raptors for ending that dynasty and starting a new era in basketball, there likely won't be super teams for the foreseeable future.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know how baseball works. You don't win just by spending the most and acquiring the most talent in baseball. This isn't the NBA.

That's not a problem with the abstract concept of superteams, that's a problem with the execution of player acquisition and money management. That's not the same thing
At some point, we're having a semantic argument. We agree that trying to put those contracts and those players together was a terrible idea. But it wasn't because of the concept of superteams. It was just poor specific execution of roster management.

Hmm, the team that hit .204 and their pitching outside of ONE guy that saved their season. And even then it took a home run from one of their "cheap" players to save them in the 9th inning. If anything this World Series run and even leading into the postseason showed that a "cheap" team would've gone this far and won. Seattle had great pitching too and they were one pitching mistake away in their own game 7 from getting there and possibly winning it.
There's more data that shows that high payroll isn't a direct correlation to winning just this season alone than there is for it being some sort of advantage. What IS a problem is that there are teams essentially losing on purpose because they would rather tank than to pay any good player so they're left with trying to "catch up" with the bigger spending teams.

2017 and 2018 were awful.

I want superteams back in the NBA. Any team. I remember being so extremely happy whenever a team beats the "Heatles". There has to be a villain and an underdog in the NBA, it just makes the storyline more interesting to watch.

lol, I love that it's usually Dodgers fans that try to convince everyone that money isn't the reason for their success. As if never losing players for nothing, being able to hire the best scouts, have the best facilities attracting free agents, and literally dozens of other reasons why having more money >>> having less money. It's a huge advantage.
