I mean imagine him defending the perimeter and interior alongside another mobile C.

He has played a 3 a 4 and occasionally 5. But he hasnt got the strength for 5 yet. Both offensively and defensively

Ingram is getting better everyday, he looks much stronger and comfortable dribbling the ball, going to the rim etc. I thought he would be a glue guy type of player, but he is changing my mind on that he could be the star in this young Lakers core.

Ingram over the month of January so far:

11 games: 30 mpg/11.5 ppg/4.2 rpg/2.5 apg 46% FG, 44% 3 pt. His free throw percentage is still struggling @ 62% but otherwise he is on his way.

The Jazz tried to trade back into the first round to get him. If the Jazz and Spurs want you, you are probably a pretty good player.

The sixes are 13-18 with Joel Embiid in the line up... let that sink in for a moment. They are 2-9 with him out of the last be up. They where 10-72 last season.

They are +16.2 points better with him on the floor vs off. They have a DRTG of 101 with him on vs 111 with him off. They have an ORTG of 105 with him on vs 99 with him off. Screw the ROY Embiid is straight up one of the most impactful players in the NBA. I haven't seen a big like him come out since Duncan. Kid is scary good.

There are so many instances in this draft of guys that fell that I'm not sure why. The main two that come to mind are -

Dejounte Murray (projected borderline lottery, fell to 29)
Deyonta Davis (projected lottery, fell to 32)
Baldwin (projected 10~ish, went at 17)
Ellenson (projected 10~ish, went at 18)

I would also point out Skal, Zubac, McCaw, Felder as guys I was surprised to see drop so far.

Some of these guys have already proved to some extent that they shouldn't have dropped, some haven't had the opportunity yet, but when there was reaches like Thon at 10, Papagiannis at 13, Yabusele at 16, etc., who don't look like the greatest picks at their position at this very early stage, you have to scratch your head a bit.

Just find it interesting how a guy like Murray, with such clear tools and ability, fell to the Spurs given there were no major red flags. Same with Davis, I remember seeing him keep on slipping and slipping despite no major red flags, I think he was even in the green room! I found it a weird draft.

Patrick McCaw is shooting 60% from 3 point land this month in his limited minutes. Had a nice 20 minute stint today where he had a nice follow spike jam and a couple of threes. Plus he's been more aggressive with the ball in his hands the past handful of games. I really like the way he's progressing.

Or what about Dario Saric. Guy is a winner and makes winning plays, even if **** on court before. Doing it with limitations of vertical, short hands and lack of speed. Yet he gets the important rebounds against one or two far more athletic guys. A guy with no vertical blocks twice two people in span of 5 seconds, and in next few minutes scores 5 points three rebounds vs Raptors igniting the team. in the next game he fights for two rebounds in last minut of the game and one he turns right away into an off balance assist for a game winning shot. Again among so many more athletic guys around him.
He impacts the game even when it doesnt show up on the sheet. Just with pure tenacity and a winning mentality. As a rookie.

Ya for a 2nd rounder I dont think as a GS fan I could be any happier with him at the moment. The game is still fast for him and you can easily see that. But I like what im seeing from him. Reminding me a little like Ian Clark last year. Not the same style of play or anything but a guy getting limited minutes and you can see the potential of a solid guard in him. Just needs probably another summer to get a little more comfortable. Would love if he is able to be a 15 minute a game type of guy next year for us.

The icing on the cake for me is that we bought the pick when we didn't have a 2nd rounder just because our scouts saw something in him.

I hope teams continue selling GSW 2nd round picks in the future when our scouts like a prospect.

Ya that says a lot about the scouting department. I think you gotta go back to Udoh to find the last time we really missed on a draft pick. Ya Barnes over Drummond isnt the greatest but we did just trade for Bogut like a couple months before hand so we didnt really need a 5 and we did need a 3. I have a ton of faith with this front office when it comes to the draft.

Another interesting Dunn stat (though I can't verify)

So long as Dunn becomes at least a serviceable player on offense, he's going to be a really good player. He'll have to be more than serviceable offensively to ever be a starter, though. It's impossible to be a starting PG without being either an above average scorer or facilitator, and Dunn's neither right now.

I'm still keenly watching his game for progress, though. Older rookie or not, he's still a 1st year player, and as soon as he makes improvements on offense, he's going to be a valuable 2 way guy.

Can any Spurs fan (or someone who has watched their games) talk to me a bit about Murray? Myself and a bunch of other posters on the Knicks forum wanted us to find a way to get him in last year's draft, so I'm a fan. Watched his highlights against the Cavs and Nuggets and he looked good.

Bball reference considers KJ McDaniels a G/F, so that puts him #1 all time for rookies at 4.2%. Carter 2nd and Dunn currently 3rd, tho. Rest of the top 10:

Stackhouse
JaKarr Sampson
Isaiah Whitehead
Ron Brewer (Ronnie Brewer's dad, hah)
Dennis Johnson
Paul Pressey
Kobe / Todd Day / Andrew Harrison / Bobby Sura

http://bkref.com/tiny/jMe8J

I love Dunn's defensive instincts. Really on full display against Denver.
