Temporarily locking this topic to do some house keeping. It will be re-opened soon enough.

Please read the OP. BombSquadSammy wrote 4 or 5 posts addressing the same issues and it's clear that the vast majority of users have their hearts in a good place. Unfortunately, a tiny minority is enough to destroy a whole topic and even lead otherwise good users to engage in poor discussions.

The following is an example of the spirit of this topic:

SOUL wrote:Saw a good post from Derrick Williams:

"He was the most misunderstood basketball player ever and it was because his tenacity, aggression, work ethic that ultimately made you uncomfortable. Who trains like this ? How ? Why would you do that? Ultimately you become better then your idols and that’s what he became to many people from LA. With that said , only two words could describe him , Black Mamba.
One story I want to share is when I go to workout with Kobe. I sent him a text and said Kobe can i get a workout in with you tomorrow? I want to be a better player. He responds “6:30AM Irvine Spectrum” I meet him there but he wasn’t sleepy eyed like I was so I was confused as hell. We lift for 1hr 15 mins , abs another 45 mins , then we hop on the court for an hour. “D Will we are going to work on go to moves , I’ma show you counters and everything and I’m going to rebound for you” for a hour he ran and chased makes and misses to see me get better. I asked him why aren’t you going to shoot ? He said “young fella I’ve been up since 4 , I already shot and ran on the track before I met you here” Thats when I knew I was working with a different animal. Thank you @kobebryant for the ever lasting memories and for what you have done for my generation of basketball players and inspiring athletes. Prayers to the Bryant family."

Please value posts like the one and others above and stop replying to obvious bad posts, especially engaging them in discussion --- i.e, you shouldn't be discussing what some twitter account is saying or if someone was suspended for tweets or something like that. There are some very obvious posts that are fishing for your reactions. Just report them.

I know the upbeat things are far far less interesting than the negative ones, but RealGM has never told any mods to generate more clicks and hits. So... if your heart is set on some battles, you should go find some other website where you can go discuss all that garbage that you can find on twitter threads or your favourite reddit subs.

If you don't respect Kobe and have a pressing need to trash him or trash a topic that is supposed to be about "honouring him", at least respect BombSquadSammy and other users who are still emotional are not on RealGM to have to deal with some of the divisive discussions they have to deal elsewhere.

Again, please read the OP.

Basically said that he's not doing too well right now since he's still trying to recover from his little sister's death, how Kobe was his brother and how he wished he had communicated with him more. Said he hasn't slept since getting the news. He's taking it pretty hard right now.

Dude go **** yourself..It sets a bad precedent that LA postponed a **** game to grieve someone they lost? They're not **** robots you absolute **** ****. You dont know these players you have absolutely no idea the impact Kobe had on their lives. It's Kobe how is this hard to get?

He might be a scalper and is losing money because of this. Couldn't happen to a better person

they should just cancel the whole season. How can players be expected to play through this

I think it was Derek Fisher who said he can't go an hour without crying. That's how I've been since finding out. I try to do something to distract myself and then it just keeps hitting me that he's gone. And then I have to find a quiet corner to just breathe and try to keep it together. This has been more painful than I could've imagined. Before this I'd be ashamed to admit I cried over a celebrity. It never happened before. Until now. He was more than a "celebrity" to me, Los Angeles, and millions of others.

This morning I opened my laptop to a tweet from Justin Timberlake, and just cried again. I don't know how long it'll take before I don't have this reaction anymore. I can't even find it in me to watch Kobe highlights. I couldn't watch the reairing of his final game last night. I never realized the degree to which Kobe "Bean" Bryant impacted my life. ****. This is so, so so hard.

Today has been a bit better than the past two but still feels really really surreal. The kids on the helicopter really get to me.

Pretty much how I've felt. I've had to take medication the last two nights just to fall asleep. Can't even imagine for people like Shaq who have so much personal history and real life relationships with Kobe. Jay Williams mentioned how Kobe had this aura when you were around him that just made you want to be the best version of yourself. That came through the tv screen for people like me who never even met him. I can't even imagine for people who spent real, quality time with Kobe. And most of all for Vanessa, her kids, Kobe's sisters and parents. Man...

100% feel the same. I honestly think it’s because of the man he grew into and the things we are only now seeing like how much he loved his daughters and how much he tried everything possible to raise people up. That’s what I value about him.

Forget him being admittedly cocky when he was extremely young. This dude transformed into someone SO positive and full of love and life. That’s what I feel when I see the pics of him and Gigi. No “wrapped in the moment” garbage either. Kobe was at a new chapter in life and Gigi had so much life to live. That’s why I’m heartbroken as someone who has never even been to LA far less had any personal connection with Kobe or his family. It’s just unfair in every way.

Thank you Kobe for showing me how to love the game as a kid and then showing me the passion it takes to be successful later on in life.

I'm following TMZ, and apparently Kobe's pilot was going very fast for foggy conditions at 161 knots.

"Sikorsky S-76 was at about 1,700 feet when it crashed. Flight tracker data also shows the chopper's speed was about 161 knots. Several experienced pilots tell us they're baffled the pilot, Ara Zoboyan, was going that fast in heavy fog.

In the seconds prior to crashing, Zobayan took the helicopter from 1200 feet to 2000 feet within a matter of seconds. It appears he cleared one hillside, only to strike the next."

It was too foggy to fly, but the pilot had a license to fly in the fog. Besides the weather, why he was flying so fast is a mystery.

Great decision.

If Kobe gets in the same day as KG & TD, the latter two players won't get the attention they deserve.

Just a plain mistake imo, no pilot is perfect. Plane accidents happen once in a while, unfortunately.

The truth is, 100% of us are going to die someday, and I'm sure very few of them will be pleasant and painless. They died very quickly and painlessly, which is I'm sure how most of us would like to go.
