That goes to Pat sir. Who's already been given the responsibility to guard the likes of LeBron, kawhai, Giannis and other top talent :)

Lamelo is 11th in DBPM, with most of the names at the top the guys youd generally expect to see
https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2021_advanced.html

people still are calling him a horrible defender because of..reputation I guess? or him memeing in a video saying he doesn't care about defense when he was a kid.

he's actually been exceptionally good on defense and its time people start to realize it

yeah its pretty stupid to suggest he is better than giannis, gobert if you go by that logic. Reputation matters a lot and he barely proved he is not a below avg. Suggesting he is dpoy is stupid.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

After a couple bad games Quickley bounced back nicely. Quickley going to be a good player.

DBPM is not really a good stat for defense as it is a no score stat. DBPM really likes guys that can rebound and be playmakers. So since Melo gets a lot of rebounds and assists that is why he has a high DBPM. It’s also why Jokic is 3rd in DBPM in the whole league.

But I do agree that Melo is going to be a plus defender. It is obvious with his size, length and instinct that if he puts in effort he will be great defensively. Especially after what we saw from his brother who people also labeled a trash defender coming out of college.

Not a great idea to make arguments about someone’s defense based solely on a small sample of dbpm. No one wants it to be used that way, especially the people who created it who constantly say ‘hey this thing is really shaky at measuring defense.’ It basically tells you that someone can produce stats on defense and there’s been some level of team defensive efficiency when they’re out there, neither of which tells you about their defense on its own. Guy like Melo gets steals (which I think dbpm rates highly) and rebounds so it likes that, and it also doesn’t have years of data sets to rely on for Melo to fall back on (and cut out noise). Doesn’t tell you anything about how he guards people.

just saying that it matches the TPA stats, matches the DRTG, matches the eye test. everything comes to the same conclusion. that he is a pretty good defender right now

Love the excuses by people who just don't want to admit they could have been wrong

LaMelo is one of the best defensive players in the 2020 draft period, I don't need DBPM to tell me otherwise, I watch the games

Numbers, especially defensive ones, aren't everything, but if you really wanna go by DRTG, he is absolutely killing Charlotte on defense there.

Charlotte DRTG with him: 109.2
Charlotte DRTG without him: 101.6

Their DRTG is a -7.6 with him on the floor. Only Rozier has a worse Net DRTG on the team than him.

not sure where you're pulling that from, but I pulled mine from https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHO/2021.html
where he is rated as the best drtg that gets actual minutes on the team

he also leads the team in defensive win shares

Yeah don't do that. Their RTG numbers are useless box score based garbage.

Use NBA.com's instead, which is actually based on team points scored/allowed per possession.

oof no , these stats are awful. they can't even calculate TS% correctly, and nothing else really makes any sense on here either. no thanks. everyone knows using NBA.com for stats is a big no-no

They use the exact same TS% formula as everyone else. If you are wondering why the TS% numbers look different on that link, it is because you are looking at what the TEAM number is when they are on or off the floor.

You simply don't understand how to use the site. Play around with the options, and you will quickly figure it out. It is much more robust than Basketball-ref's.

Ainge has had his troubles with players from the mid to late first round picks - Yabusele, James Young, RJ Hunter etc. But he has been adept with PGs in this area of the draft, where others called these picks reaches - Rondo, Rozier and now Pritchard.
Pritchard gives hope for those good three and four year college players who actually will start showing up on teams radar

This kid is legit. First half 11 points on 5 for 8 with 2 assists in 10 minutes.

The Knicks may have finally solved their decades long point guard problem with the 25th pick in the draft.

He had a 2-23 shooting 3 game stretch not to long ago and not a post was made about him. At least be consistent.

These hot takes need to cease. Remember Kendrick Nunn? And he did it for a whole regular season. Where is he now?

Quickley isn't doing anything that 10 other guards drafted just this draft, wouldn't do if they had Elfrid **** Payton ahead of them in the pecking order to take mins from.

I’m curious. Have you ever seen him play or is it, because they likely don’t broadcast NBA games in Romania, you are unfortunately relegated to sharing your amazing insights after perusing box scores?
