the east is trash: only 5 teams with a winning record

...no way emid is the leader beating up on trash like that while only having 4th best record in the NBA

Who then? Jazz is pretty much run by committee without a real MVP candidate, LeBron and Kawhi have better records than Embiid but they both also have a star teammate helping out with that, while they themselves haven't been better on a per minute basis than Embiid.

I think if Embiid plays enough and Philly's record stays close to the Lakers, he'll win. I doubt both those happening but it's certainly possible.

I have Emid #2 because of his record; although his record is inflated by the weak East. My MVP list is

1. lebron
2. Emid

3. Kawhi

4. Jokic
5. Steph

AD has been very lackluster. He's having his worst season in a long time. So there's nothing hurting LeBron's MVP case. Unlike last year where AD was as good or better than him

L for phila, good game for joel.
So, compared to lebron:
-Embiid has 3 less Ws, 5 more missed games
- Kawhi 2Ws, 4 more missed games
-Giannis 4.5 Ws, 1 more missed game
-Jokic 6ws, 0 more missed games

East is the worst it has ever been - if Nets screw up this road trip all the teams will have a losing record against the West. All of its players should be disqualified not only from the MVP but the entire awards season

ESPN seems to be campaigning Lebron as the front runner. NBA mvp ladder has been having him number one for weeks now. Unless Lebron really messes up, not sure this will be that close. https://www.nba.com/news/kia-mvp-ladder-feb-12-edition

After this year Lebron will be 5-5-5, next year we go for the jugular!

So far it’s Lebron’s to lose. The problem I have with picking Embiid over James is that the Sixers might have the best record in the East at the moment, but SRS and ORTG/DRTG says they’re about the same level as last year when they looked largely underwhelming compared to the legitimate contenders. Good chance they don’t finish #1 towards the end of the season.

At what point does the best player on the best team get some love?

Isn’t that how it works?

In 2006 the Pistons had the best record in the league, but no one on their team was ever a serious MVP candidate.

It's more an ensemble rather than star-driven success.

None of Gobert, Mitchell or Conley are having MVP calibre seasons even if all three have been great.

So I cannot see any reason to put any of them above LeBron, Embiid, Jokic or Kawhi.

LeBron played better and harder in the RS in 2016, 2018, and 2020 where he finished 3rd, 2nd, and 2nd in MVP voting respectively. And then he went on to win titles in 2 of those years and make the Finals/have maybe his best postseason in the other. He’ll be fine.
