I'm really surprised by Barnes touch and ability to shoot from mid range. I thought one of his weaknesses watching his games was lack of touch inside the paint. This is a big surprise to me. Let's see if the trend continues.

His ceiling is KG/more physical AD. Barnes can’t compete with that projection imo.
If were talking theoretical max ceilings both Mobley and Barnes have the potential to blow past KG in terms of players.
KG is like one of the 15 or so best players of all time…“blowing past” a player of that caliber isn’t happening unless you’re basically a GOAT tier player. Which…I like Barnes/Mobley but that’s not happening imo.

Mobley is playing like Clint Capela with a jumper. I want to see him create his own offense, instead of just dunking off easy pick n roll lobs like a role player.

KG is considered by most people to be a top 12 player of all time. That is an inner inner circle Hall of Fame player.

Neither has the potential to “blow past” him, especially Barnes.
Raptors fans are something else.

would be pretty harsh to judge Cade off of 1 game after being out for a month
for sure, but it’s gonna happen nonetheless.

Stop it.

Can't wait to watch Cade tonight.
If Cade plays badly, all hell breaks loose
Such is the nature of RealGM lol smh
Realy shouldn't though as a rookie and of course, most players need at least a couple weeks or so after an injury to really get back to form. Only makes me wonder if people will allow for it to get him in the ROY convo IF he has a slow start or if like LaMelo last year one of Barnes or Mobley jump out too far ahead and jump to the conclusion its one of them.

yeah it's clearly a longshot but we'll see. Who knows how rookies develop but odds clearly not in their favor based on how many players played in this league and how few have been better than KG.

I mean, it would be much worse because so many rookies that were picked after him are currently playing so well. The overreaction would not be as severe if he had played from the get go...he has a lot of ground to make.

I think too much is made of the 1st pick has to be the best player in the draft. Even if he is the 3rd or 4th best player and becomes a multiple Allstar and gamechanger for them Pistons fans should be very happy about it. If he kills it right out of the gate, great. If he doesn't, that's normal after an injury. There really isn't much to read into.

Sure, but that's you being rational. The media and the most fans will not take it easy on him.

Here's the thing.
Every rookie that comes out is always going to be shrugged off in terms of their ceiling.
A player of Mobley's height, wingspan and mobility truly has no true absolute ceiling. Hypothetically.
We don't know how good his ball handling or shot is going to be in the next few years.
The only real thing we can predict with Mobley is that he can likely anchor a defense in the future. Mobley's offensive game can go as low as Rudy Gobert to as high as ????, maybe he's the new KG with a legit, or even deadly 3 point shot.
We don't know.
Or maybe he never improves further on the offensive end.
Let's also take your guy Giannis, in his rookie year nobody thought he'd become what he was, everyone probably compared him to some marginal All Star player at the time for his ceiling, he had great tools but was pretty raw, now here we are.
This is kinda why I don't like talking about players ceilings, you just don't know.
Again keep in mind i'm not saying he's going to become as good as KG was, what I am saying is that we know what KGs ceiling was, we don't know what Mobley's ceiling is.

Re: 2021-22 Rookie Thread
Love Mobley so much but IMO Barnes' package is greater.
Been our best scorer, rebounder, defender and intangible leader so far this season IMO which is downright ludicrous considering we're a winning franchise with seasoned vets who've gone the distance. He's done all that, seemingly, without even cracking a frown or anything. Everything looks so easy. This is a guy who's not being given any playmaking duties, offensive plays, and basically isn't really shooting much whatsoever.
His mobility is what puts him over Mobley for me (and Mobley is incredible in his own right). Barnes, like OG, is THE guy I want to throw at KD/Giannis/Lebron late game. That's what its all bout to me. Not only that but Barnes is also mentally so far beyond his age - he's truly an example of the best case scenario for a USA basketball youth player. Just turned 20 - 3 USA gold medals, played at the best prep school, played under one of the most highly respected coaches in Hamilton, freshman of the year, 6th man of the year...he's literally like a top hockey prospect.
They've been doing it so long that even as rookies, they're consummate pros.
To compare - Siakam only started playing basketball at 18...the advantage Barnes has from an experience and development standpoint is notable.

I haven't focused on Mobley for ROY as that typically goes to the best offensive player. Its Evan's D which has been amazing so far.

No one cares about Banton brah lol
I get that he looks like he can be a decent rotation player but he's getting way too much mention from fellow Rap fans in this thread. You'd swear we found Jokic in the 2nd rd the amount times you guys throw him into conversation lol he plays with great energy and pace but there isn't something about him that stands out so much that he's needed to brought up as much as he has.

It’s the rookie thread. Any nice mentions if any rookie is fine
Banton has been great so far so it’s fair to give him attention and props. Been the best 2nd rounder so far
