Are there actually people defending Morris here? Do people know what kind of reputation he has around the league? The fact that when you type in Markieff Morris on Youtube and the third thing that pops up is "Markieff Morris dirty" tells you everything you need to know about what kind of player/person he is.

Was Jokic being a bit excessive? Yes, he was. Was it needed? Yes, it was. Dirty plays need to be phased out of the game. The Morris bros have been doing stuff like this for far too long. Morris thought he could get away with it and as a result just got embarrassed on national TV. I think he learned his lesson.

If your argument is that flagrant fouls where there is no play on the basketball should be legislated out of the game - with suspensions without pay meted out to those who do it - I am on board with that. There is no place in the game for non-basketball flagrant fouls.

Jokic's hit was after the whistle, but Morris's was much much more dangerous. That knee to the side of the knee contact can effectively end a career.

The foul by Morris is not unlike fouls that are regularly seen in NBA games - players hitting other players while not making a play on the ball. Hell - last season, LeBron hit Embiid while he was in the air, causing Embiid to fall hard on his back (something that lingered for the rest of the season), and LeBron only got a Flagrant 1. Players take hard, flagrant hits.

There is simply no comparison between the two situations.

Acting like you are near death is embarrassing.

I dont think Morris was faking. He got hit in a vulnerable position and had a next hyperextension that caused a stinger and maybe a contusion.
Doubt that Jokic wanted to hit him like that and just wanted to retaliate in a similar way but he was pissed and lashed out in anger.

possible but id put my money on faking it, i think as soon as he was hit he knew it was Jokic and went into playing hurt mode. I feel the natural instinct would be to look back in the direction that the blow came from, he just laid there. Maybe if it was a significant injury but i havent read anything about such.

If someone punches you in the head to stop a fast break, is that a basketball play just because it happened before a whistle? Give me a break. You have no clue. Morris elbowed Joker in full stampede. Jokic saw red and decked him. Case closed. Both should be suspended but Jokic has the moral high ground here.

The foul by Morris on Jokic was a flagrant, non-basketball play that warranted an ejection. What Jokic did was unquestionably worse, IMO.

So if Jokic waited until the ball was inbounded and shoved an unsuspecting Morris in the back on the very next play, somehow that would look better for Jokic? No, because what he did was in the heat of the moment - it was a reaction to Morris instigating the mess with a pre-meditated, non-basketball play.

If Morris was making a basketball play, he would have wrapped Jokic up with his arms - like 99% of all take fouls to stop transition breaks. He tried to disguise a dirty play as a take foul.
