let's go full circle then and Brand can be our starting center this year on Philly West.

Different situation. Also the Cav's couldn't have gotten screwed unless they were violating NBA rules.

What Boozer did was far worse than this too.

Re: Clippers lobbying to change DeAndre Jordan's decision, CP3 & Co. to meet with DJ later today
The Clippers' interference isn't a violation of any league rule, and no action would be taken against the organization if Jordan changed his mind, another league source said. But such a flip-flop would violate the spirit of the moratorium period, when executives and agents make deals totaling tens of millions and expect both sides to keep their word. Free-agent commitments during the moratorium also trigger a domino effect of other deals as teams clear salary-cap room for players they've agreed to deals with and those that missed out on free-agent targets make deals with other players.
"It would undermine the whole premise of the system and the ability of parties to get together shake hands and rely on it," one prominent agent told CBSSports.com. "It would be anarchy."

Agreed. If Jordan is weak minded enough to do this to an organization like the Mavs, he deserves the Clips. Bunch of career losers over there with Paul Pierce thrown in the mix. Looking forward to their inevitable second round exit next year regardless.

I'm not trolling. It's just my personality not to fly off the handle like the sky is falling with every minor event in the NBA.
Most of us (or at least me personally) are not flying off the handle. People just understand that giving a verbal commitment like that and then backing out screws over the team pretty badly. As I mentioned they could have gone after Hibbert or Lopez but those players have already signed or traded to other teams. Once a player commits the team stops looking for players at that position. You saying that, that doesn't matter and not acknowledging the repercussions of such flip-flopping is certainly odd. Didn't think there would be a debate on that.
I acknowledge there are repercussions for the Mav's if he backs out. But the Mav's knew this could happen, it has happened in the past. It's a risk of doing business. It's sucks, but oh well.

lol Everyone involved in this looks so stupid. Between the player's tweets, the Mavs thinking they had him and then potentially getting screwed over, the Clippers organization begging him to come back. And then of course DeAndre teetering back and forth like a woman who isn't sure which guy she likes more.
Chris Paul looking like Happy Gilmore right now. I'm sorry, baby, I didn't mean it.

There will be ramifications because of a hit to their reputation, but if they want to accept that then what's the issue?
You don't think it would give the NBA a black eye and with that, the NBA would step in to stop this from happening again? A company gets screwed over by an individual nobody cares, a company screws over an individual tons of people care. Sure it's legal but is it ethical?
Did the NBA change the rules after the Turkoglu to Toronto fiasco?!?! You do know this has happened before right?
It wasn't nearly this big, he was a "good" player at the time. Somewhat the same but way different impact.

The cavs couldn't actually have an agreement with Boozer under the rules. The Mavs clearly did have one.

Tanking implies that a team takes a dive on purpose. The Mavericks can't be accused of tanking, no matter how 2015 unfolds.

That all apparently evened out w/ taxes.
Does it?
It doesn't - if he signs the max in LA he'll pay roughly $7M in additional state taxes over the life of the contract (~$1.5M per year). Staying with the clips definitely makes sense from a financial standpoint.

Well I think we can keep Matthews off the court for quite some time. Parsons too. Then everyone else can play as hard as they want. We won't win many games at all.

Elton Brand, McDyess, Kidd, Boozer... it has happened quite a few times actually, I guess younger kids don't remember, but no need to claim the sky is falling.

It's still a bad look for all involved, I agree.

Gotta say I love the 'I don't get it' line when referring to Dallas and general fans' outrage.. yeah you do. Just embrace your contrarian take already. What DJ did (or might do, whatever) screwed a franchise. It's legal but a really crappy thing to do. If someone legitimately doesn't get that, I feel for their friends and family. If they have them. I don't get why they would though..

Yeah no they won't.
Of course they will, do you think they wont use this to lowball him in 5 years? Of course they will, they are businessmen and will use anything they can to save some $$ add that in 5 years DeAndre won't be as young as he is now which won't help him.
Until they realize this is a guy who is a solid defensive anchor and lead the league in rebounds, fg%, and top 3 in blocks for consecutive years.
