Green had a really really good stretch after coming back from injury but man it's been rough the last 3 or so games. And Sengun finally comes back and only plays 14 minutes for reasons beyond my comprehension

Quite sad to see the once highly competent Raptors medical staff that invented load management now just let some rookie play 33 minutes in a blowout loss to the juggernaut Pistons with long haul Covid induced knee tendinitis that is being cited as the cause of his poor play.

fear can be a strong scent but insecurity just reeks. really, it just sucks for him he's the only player in the league playing through pain.
If he's injured they should just sit him. His game looks really bad lately.

the raps haven't even played half their games and yet barnes has played twice as many minutes this season as he did in college a year ago. and those 595 college minutes came in a 116 day span. barnes' 1,137 minutes have come in an 81 day span.
not saying they shouldn't sit him, but every rookie is dealing with the increase in physical burden.

Kuminga has the highest ceiling from this year class.
By far the most athletic rookie, 2 way player, he will be a starter for the Warriors soon.

He had an incredible game tonight, and not just in garbage time but also when the game was competitive. Hard not to feel like the Warriors got themselves a dynamic two way threat here, at the very least.
Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

To think some people said Kuminga was a bad pick at #7 and that we should trade him

I was really high on Kuminga at 5 for the Magic and the majority of the board wanted Barnes. I thought he would be a young Carmelo-type scorer.PlatinumState wrote:To think some people said Kuminga was a bad pick at #7 and that we should trade him
I'm happy with Suggs tho. It's been a long time since we had a guard that was this good defensively.

Kuminga had good game but i dont see a star right now. Akward looking 3, only straight line driver. His athletecism is real, but he has a very long way to go skill wise. GSW is good developing talent and Atkinson just joined them so the pathway is there tough.
Suggs in his return hustling like its nba finals. His skill level is not there yet but he has a unique mix of unselfishness and killer mentality. Would still pick him for the magic (but not before Wagner)

My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

If Scottie was on the Magic they would've already shut him down, possibly for the year. I don't agree with Nurse playing him so many minutes. I think at one time he was top 5 in MPG.

Possibly, but it’s not like the guys picked ahead of him haven’t either been better or shown flashes. I’m not writing off anyone yet. Kuminga is in a tougher situation for getting minutes.

Suggs played well too. 12/7/6 on 5/8 shooting in 22 minutes. 6 TOs though. He needs to clean up the handle.
He had a really bad 5 min stretch turning over the ball... he needs to spend all summer working on that.

Re: 2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 4)
Kuminga as the roll-man in the traditional PnR or as the ball-handler in the inverted PnR has great potential in the half-court, especially since he's not only explosive but also able to make at least the basic reads and passes on the move that someone with the ball in his hands should be able to do. Add to this the potential for be an awesome off-ball cutter and threat in transition, and it's easy to see Kuminga having a consistent impact on offense soon.
Shooting ability is obviously a swing factor, and we'll have to see if he has a consistent motor and embraces efficient basketball. But he has a great foundation to work with. It will take some time before he becomes a high-level isolation player that create decent shots when you need them, but his handles and touch for his size are pretty encouraging considering his age, so I am hopeful.
On defense, we'll see where he lands. He has all the tools to be an elite great defensive player and his on-ball defense – including and especially on Guards and Wings on the perimeter – is already very impressive and some of his blocks suggest that there is a good weak-side help defender in him. But he'll need to ramp up his motor off the ball a bit, and learn to impact every defensive possessions up until the defensive rebound and not only those possessions where he guards the ball handler.
His performances in the G-League have been a bit underwhelming, especially when it comes to a consistently high effort level. This has not been an issue in the NBA so far (even though his effort on the glass should be higher) but you hope that he's not going to be someone who plays with somewhat lackluster effort on both ends once he's established himself as a good NBA player that does not have to compete for minutes and touches any longer. I hope the team and coaches instill in him that constant fire to play hard.

Kuminga is Barnes on steroids. He has to improve his rebounding though.

Problem is the coach. Nurse is not a good coach for player development, he puts team winning over player development. Casey on the other hand is a good coach for player development, his track record in Toronto speaks volume. Barnes needs a coach like Casey.

I'm getting modern Al Jefferson vibes from those post-moves + the handle in the fast-break. Haven't seen him in a full game yet though.
