Yes, you are crazy for comparing him to KG. Flagg is going to have his own style, which is going to match his skillset and athletic tools in ways that the Garnett comparison does not provide.

ok I'm crazy then. Life goes on. I don't think he'll actually play that much like KG but I don't think that KG would play that much like he did in 2000 if he were coming up now either.

I'ev noticed the Siakam like qualities to him too. When Siakam made the league, I told my brother that he kind of played like me in that he'll flip his back to the basket, and his post up style. I see the same kind of style in Flagg. Flagg seems to be aggressive with his body, whereas Siakam is much less physical and more slippery IMO. Could be completely wrong.

Danny Ferry?

Bobby Hurley?

Christian Laettner?

Mike Dunleavy Jr?

Cherokee Parks?

man............... i would really hold my breath and not bet into the next Great white SHark from Dukeland amounting to a " generaltional" career.........i mean from that ( hyped in their moment) bunch, the best one was Laettner.......and he had a pretty Meh nba career.

He's more of a modern KG if people can get past only comparing white players to white players. I don't know if he actually has KG like size or if its just bs but if he's a legit 6-9 or taller that's the best comparison though he likely won't be as good on defense. I mean he's only 17 or 18 still.. he could be damn scary just by the time he's 21.

Doesn't much look like he has anything approaching KG-levels of playmaking, nor a KG-level shot. Not really sure Garnett makes any kind of sense. Definitely doesn't have the same size.

Could he grow? Sure. But their games don't look similar and they aren't physically that similar either, nor is their skillset set particularly comparable.

you're using prime KG and comparing him to 17 y/o Flagg. I promise you Flagg is a better play-maker and shooter at the same age. I wouldn't compare them either since KG has several inches on him and played 4/5 while Flagg is a point forward/wing. They play and look nothing alike.

I suspect KG would play almost exactly as he did then, if perhaps exchanging some of his jumpers for 3s. He didn't hit the league as a PF, if you recall.

Rather explicitly, I was not...

That, I do not believe, no.

Exactly.

He's definitely legit.

He only takes over when he thinks he has to, like in second halves. To be a top level scorer he probably will have to adjust that mindset to something more aggressive.

This is what I like from him. See the bully-ball potential? Works well from the elbows/mid-post out of the triple threat where he only needs one dribble to make a move. Doesn't need to overdribble the ball and risk unnecessary turnovers.

My only question is what team will the NBA want him on. The draft is rigged imo for certain stars.

I think Washington is definitely off the board for the #1 pick.

San Antonio would be nice, but they already got rewarded with Wemby.

New Orleans not a chance especially how they mishandled Zion.

Toronto this is probably at the top of my list as of now. Pair him with Barnes and take over Canada.

Charlotte stays in NC plays next to 2 budding stars in Melo/Miller.

Utah maybe, but that market is off the radar and not attractive for FA's.

Portland again off the radar in the Pacific Northwest.

I think Toronto will be his destination.

What do any of those players have to do with Cooper Flagg? Talk a bout a lazy take.

True although from the limited games I've watched in college basketball the defense is always more active in first halves.

I think if most of this board saw 17 yr old KG right now they wouldn't possibly think he'd become a strong shooter or playmaker at his position. So it's another wait and see. It wouldn't be that uncommon for a 17 yr old to grow still as well. I wanna see his true height when he's 20.

No, that's still off, and badly. KG averaged over 6 bpg and shot nearly 67% from the field in his senior year. He was a ~ 25/18 guy in that last HS season. And his vision and passing were visibly different. KG was always a good shooter, that was a feature element of how he played. He's a good example of FT% not telling the whole story once he hit the NBA, to be fair, but he was MURDERING it from 16+ feet right away.

Not a close comparison.

Garnett took until year 3 as an nba player to hit over 3 assists / 36 minutes, but Cooper plays more outside in and is looking to pass as well as shoot on drives. A problem with Cooper may not be the passing, it's teams willingness to feel the need to send defensive help which will open up the assists for him. Ben Simmons can still make passing work without being much of a threat at scoring though.

Still credit to Garnett who was averaging like 5 assists as a big man in a different era in his prime.

Can I mention again that this kid is 17?

Cooper is 10 days from the youngest possible draft age.

Most NBA freshman lotto players are closer to the maximum age, one year held back due to academic development or started school late by a year, reaching mid 20.5 in age by draft. Cooper will be 18.5 on draft day, which is insanity.
