Who's going to be a bigger star, Haaland or Vic? Maybe I should have included Mbappe? Due to the French connection.

Assuming Vic becomes a global basketball star.

Well, Soccer is far more popular, so Haaland. But Wemby plays the sport where individual has far bigger impact, so he could be more important in his own sport.

Ok. I've really only seen highlights of the kid play. I know that you're big into Euro ball. So that's why I asked. Just how good is this kid really?

He looks like a taller Durant to me. The way he moves & his handle is pretty top notch. That wingspan is crazy.

He is already amazing defender, but his offense is at project state still. Beautiful mechanics, but shots arent really falling, he is settling for bad shots way too often, I mean he just turned 19 and averaging 21 points on 57.7 TS% in France, so thats unbelievable, but yeah, he aint KD offensively yet, probably not even rookie Seattle KD, not even close really. But he is capable of so many things all those things offensively arent great, but it all need so little to be great, so yeah, potential is insane.

Most people just forget how insanely tall he is. He is literally the same height and even longer than all these meme viral 7'5 fifteen year old white dudes who can barely walk but playing highschool ball and dunkinkg over other 5'7 kids... Like imagine that guy, if he also had speed, athleticism and handle level of an NBA guard. The potential is insane.
this is why everyone was talking how amazing VW is when he averaged 3 ppg. on abysman percentages in EUroleague last year. He couldn't play, but the idea is that you really had tools to mold a GOAT there.

THis year, granted, he did downgraded his competition, he was sick of his Euroleague team that just put him at perimeter and gave him 10 touches a game. But he did exploded this year. We no longer talking just about potential, we are already talking about guy who is at 19 year old is simply unguardable and can protect the rim like he is WIlt. He is 7'5, rather quick with good handle, who will guard him in the NBA when he polishes his game?

A young KD, when he entered the league, was the first name that came to me. When I was watching some of his highlights. Crazy stuff. He's legit.

His defense is top notch too. Wild.

I would also love to see an organization who never got a #1 pick finally get one. So far only the Jazz, Hawks, and Pacers have yet to get a #1 in there long history.

The Hawks drafted 1st overall three times in their history, most recently in 1975.

The Heat, Grizzlies, Nuggets, Pacers, Jazz, and Thunder/Sonics have never drafted #1 overall.

Congrats Spurs! Well deserved — one of the best organizations and coaches in the league (and that’s coming from a lifelong Lakers fan). Couldn’t think of a better situation for Wemby to land in.

Would Wembanyama be an underachiver if he doesn't reach the same level as David Robinson or Tim Duncan?

Post#893 » by Drygon » Wed May 17, 2023 12:35 am

In the past, Spurs drafted 2 generational bigs who became legendary players in NBA history.

Should Victor Wembanyama be a underachiver/bust if he doesn't reach the same level as David Robinson or Tim Duncan?

Honestly, this kid couldn't have been drafted to a better organization. Not only do they know how to nurture disciplined talent, they're also one of the best organizations with nurturing international players. Hopefully, he stays healthy and has a fruitful career. I'm actually excited about following his journey.

Maybe good for him long term, but I am impatient, I'd like to see him go to a team that can field a playoff squad from his first year.
I don't see how the Spurs can do that for a while.

It seems every few years since Lebron got drafted there is a prospect that is hyped as a “generational talent”.

Hadn't touched this thread since it was started. I'm superstitious that way.

Now, shout out to Bisme for doing so. I will relish every highlight.

When the Spurs drafted Duncan in '97 as a fan I felt he was going to lead the Spurs to at least 3 titles because I had seen what he had done in college. I knew he was just that great of a prospect. Also, during the Duncan years, I always felt the Spurs had to win titles with him because they may never have the opportunity to do it again.

With Wemby I feel different about him. I haven't seen that much of him just a few games on YouTube. He looks like a great prospect, but we will see. As a fan since I got to see the Spurs win 5 titles, I don't feel the same sense urgency that I felt every year that the Spurs had to win a title with Duncan on there. I'm sure the Spurs organization will feel that urgency again to put a good team around Wemby. I'm just going to enjoy what Wemby brings to the table and see how far he can take the Spurs.
