I just don't understand why they can get these guys to do the 3PT Contest, Skills Challenge who are playing on Sunday, but yet they have a garbage line-up for the dunk contest.

Good riddance the end of the break can't come quick enough.

dunk contest and 3pt were both terrible.
Sager tribute was nice.
Don't really care that Steph missed those half court shots it was cool anyway.

But a massive fail of an evening overall. I just fast forwarded through everything until the actual events.

I turned it off after the 3pt contest and dozed off, took my chances on the highlights, I see it was underwhelming.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

the whole all star weekend saturday was miserable, from the crew that was commenting on the games to the events itself

they need to get rid of kenny, reggie and shaq, this was one of the most painful contests to listen to when shaq kept whining about the dunks not being done from first time, and then kenny and reggie repeating same sentences multiple times like they are trying to say the most important thing in the world

they need new people, they should do something like nba legends making a comment or two from time to time, that would be dope like someone makes a dope dunk and dominique making a comment, stuff like that. Instead we got kenny "the expert" smith explaining every rule like he invented the dunk contest

When you watch the dunk contest in the highlight only form that the media put together it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as it did in its entirety. Many of the successful dunks were excellent.

Over half of the dunks in the contest last night involved players pushing off of people/props in order to get extra hang time. Not a fan. Won't be watching another dunk contest until the micky mouse crap ends.

I really dig the skills contest now, they should continue to put more effort into making it a big part of all star weekend.

I wasn't, and not because of the charity. He walks out there talking about it should probably take him only one try, but give him 3 just to be safe. Then he goes onto brick like 10 of them in an awkward moment. Curry is the cockiest player around these days, so I enjoy watching his cocky attitude blow up in his face :D

I'm glad they still got to 500k though in spite of Curry.

I just think it comes a time where the bar is just too high. what can these guys do at this point? The wow factor takes maybe two type dunks that can be performed by a human being and the rest are...eh...

Well it was obvious that was their set number from the get go and would have even if no one made a shot shooting the 3s and curry missed em all again, they were just hoping curry would hit one and it would bring the place down

Best part of that whole series of events was dj Khaleds shot form...hell, I would have called in to donate if the shots from half court were just dj khaled shooting from half court for hilarity

Dame Lizard wrote:What really hurts the dunk contest these days are that most of the dunks we've seen on youtube or instagram etc, such that it leaves us a little bit underwhelmed. Modern technology puts these contests at a huge disadvantage to those of the past, even if we've never actually seen Dunk X or Dunk Y performed at an NBA dunk contest before.

If some of those dunks came out during the Jordan/Dominique era, we'd be losing our noggin a helluva lot more often.

all we want is dunks with power and from first try, that's all. Lavine did the same dunk twice in 2015 and no one had a problem because it had power and it was from first try

and get rid of these props, dwight brought that shyt back in 2008 which had a big success and now everyone's trying to copy that. I have been seeing great dunkers trying to do this stuff when they dont need it. You can pay homage to a great player or bring a teammate to throw you the ball but all that drone shyt and dj turntable its corny as hell.

If you watch desmond mason vs jason richardson, or josh smith in 2005, that type of dunks are good till this day, because they did it so perfect. Carter in 2000 or last years dunk contest as we see they happen really rare.

Can they make the 3 point contest the finale? The dunk contest is just the lamest way to end the Saturday night festivities. I would start with the dunk contest moving forward and end with the 3 point contest.
