Player B: Plays 22 years, the latter years while being a billionaire. Get’s labeled as someone who doesn’t like competition.

Just looking for answers. Thanks in advance.

I mean this is a factual but obviously an extremely biased take. I can make a similarly biased take.

Player A - sticks with his initial team, wins 6 rings in 13 years
Player B - jumps to different teams 3 times, teams up with multiple allstars multiple times, wins 4 rings in 21 years

Just looking for answers. Thanks in advance.

Jordan played for 2 teams and LeBron played for 3.

Are you talking about different players?

I mean - context? Retires to play a different sport? It’s not like he was out there chugging beers
The 2nd time he was for sure chugging beers lol golf wasn't taking up that dang much of his time.

I'm sure he got some beers in the 1st time while filming Space Jam too. He wasn't just 100% baseball.

The Last Dance said he was thinking about retiring even before the ‘92 Olympics though.. his dad was alive then.

More like one’s a finals GOAT and the other had to team up and create a super team in order to win half his rings

When you bring rings into it the conversation changes completely. This is about simply playing the game, not the eras/teams/level of competition etc. A random dude that still in his 40s making the effort to go to the YMCA for pick up games probably likes to compete more than the guy that stopped playing in his mid 20s.

Wouldn't Russell be the finals GOAT?

Yeah LeBron is the GOAT of completely different teams to championships, unquestionably. Only people close are Kareem and Kawhi.

How "super" are those teams really are when all of them can't even be above .500 when LeBron doesn't play?

When Jordan retired from Bulls, he really had nothing else to accomplish. He was not only considered the GOAT basketball player, he was considered as the greatest athlete in history. Since nothing else could be accomplished, Jordan retired. Lebron still has a goal to accomplish, and that's why he is still playing.

And so why did he come back? Was he no longer the GOAT?

He was offered part ownership of the team.

To Wizard? It's more of activities from a retirement home. He got bored.

But you’re leaving to play something else at a lower level. The pressure of the bright lights is gone, there’s zero expectation to win. Zero expectation to fight the up and coming teams and players.

Do you remember what kind of coverage Jordan got in the minor leagues? It was pretty crazy. No such thing as no “bright lights” on Jordan. I imagine that’s why (along with Stern telling him he could come back, but stop gambling!) he gave it up and went back to basketball, he kinda sucked and everyone was watching him suck.

Oh you mean after the 2nd retirement?

That makes even less sense since Jordan retired after first 3-peat. He clearly wasn't just retiring because he felt he accomplished enough and had nothing else to accomplish, he could have accomplished another large contract. He retired because he couldn't put himself through the grind again. It takes its toll, especailly when you stay locked in like the greats do.

You mean the first retirement? His father was killed, and it impacted Jordan greatly.

Yeah, Jordan's minor league coverage was insane. His at-bat was televised for months, all ESPN covered was whether he would make to the major, and what kind of attendance it could have, and it's the farthest thing from the "Zero expectation".

Jordan said he decided to retire in 1993 as he's drained physically and way past exhausted mentally and was already set on taking a break from the NBA regardless of his father’s demise. He just doesn't have what it takes to continue playing at very high level and that's fine, not everyone got the mental fortitude and/or physical attributes to do that for a long time, his longest streak to do that is 7 straight years while LeBron sustained his excellence for 22 straight years without a single downtime to rest and just won another player of the month in the wild west.

Jordan said he retired due to physical and mental exhaustion from basketball and superstardom.
He said this himself in the Last Dance series.

The original retirement was that he was tired of basketball and wanted to try his dream of playing baseball. He only said his father was a main factor in articles after he was already struggling at baseball. And he's since walked those statements back years later as I highlighted above.
