David Stern places revised '10-'11 cap figure at $56.1M

Post#1 » by -bob- » Fri Apr 16, 2010 6:30 pm

This is HUGE for teams with capspace.

Ken Berger reporting from NBA Board of Governors Meeting
David Stern places revised '10-'11 cap figure at $56.1 million, a boon to teams pursuing free agents. #NBA

The 2010-11 luxury tax threshold is now estimated at $68m, down slightly from this season's $69.9m

That sound u just heard was the displacement of air caused by the simultaneous fistpumps from basketball fans in Miami, Chicago and NY

I think it's huger (is that even a word?) for teams near the luxury tax. I remember some people estimating the tax level coming in at something ridiculous like $62mil.

Yeah, that is good news for the Jazz who are already near that threshold. It gives them a little more wiggle room.

this sucks for chicago. if im not mistaken, they could have kept john salmons and still had enough to get a max guy.

Plus they fall a couple spots in the draft for absolutely nothing. Unless the assumption is they will get someone better than Salmons in free agency.

Still overall it is good for any team with 2010 capspace.

Actually it won't. We would still have come up a bit short.

This does however bring other teams like OKC very close to a max-salary slot, depending on who they can trade.

OKC has enough by a few 100k I think.

Imagine if they signed Bosh/A'mare then traded Jeff Green + a 1st for the #3 overall pick and drafted Cousins...

PG-Westbrook
SG-Harden
SF-Durant
PF-Bosh/A'mare
C-Cousins

Ibaka(has potential to be a DPOY)
Sefalosha(might be best perimeter defender in the league)
Maynor
Collison

Would just be sick

Name one team that would trade #3 for Jeff Green and #20 or so.

Jeff Green averages 16 and 7 and he was the #5 overall pick..that's pretty damn good production for a 3rd year player that's the #3 option on his team. And hell OKC has 2 1sts..they could make it Green+ 2 1st's

Still no team will trade #3 for that. The Late firsts mean like nothing in this draft.

Why trade Green though? he would be perfect in a role as the first forward off the bench.

Miami as it stands now will have close to 10 million in capspace even after Wade and a max free agent sign. Should they deal extra assets in a sign and trade for that max player, they could potentially have room for 3 max players.

Are you insane? 2 1st's + a SF that can get you 18 and 7 for the next decade?

Do you follow basketball? Teams don't trade down in the draft, or if they do, they trade down by 2 or 3 spots. Jeff Green is a role player type. No team will make that trade, 3 different people have now told you this, can you stop kicking and screaming please?

Ibaka plays the 4 and he will be better than Green next year. They need a 3 to backup Durant but Green is going to want 8-10 mill per year which is way too much to pay a backup. No reason to keep him around.

Why would someone trade a top 3 pick for two late firsts and a jeff green???

That essentially three role players for one possible franchise player. no one is going to do that.
