Odds Phoenix Wins the West

Post#1 » by ElGee » Fri Apr 16, 2010 8:59 pm

The Suns are as hot. (Puns!) What are their chances to win the West?

(Likely playoff path:

Round 1 v Portland
Round 2 v Dallas (if Mavs defeat Spurs)
Round 3 v Lakers (if Lakers defeat Thunder, Jazz/Nuggets winner)

Thanks.

Need Lopez to come back for round 2.

Probably would rather see San Antonio than Dallas, as odd as that sounds.

Probably need LA to get upset in the first 2 rounds.

It's a long shot. This may be the best equipped playoff team under Nash though.

/Thread. They definitely have a shot and I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if they won out West but it'll be tough because they most definitely will have to go through Los Angeles and Dallas. Nevertheless a line up of

Lopez
Amare
Hill
J Rich
Nash

is definitely going to cause some ruckus out west.

Think we can beat any team in the West without Lopez still except LA.

Robin needs to come back a couple games before the WCF than I like our chances against LA.

Not sure we can beat Cleveland though except for them I think I'd say we would be favorites against anyone else in the East. Not worried about Boston or Orlando at all. Charlotte or Atlanta would probably give us more trouble.

Suns are good and can beat anyone out West without Lopez for 1 game maybe, but not a 7 game series. Healthy teams go further in the playoffs. If Lopez comes back in Round 2, Suns would be a rough matchup.

I don't want to change the poll, but let's put it another way: if Lopez comes back, do they become the most likely team to win besides LA? (The argument against Dallas being they don't defend the interior well.)

Just trying to gauge the realgm pulse on the Suns before the playoffs tip...

(Maybe the poll should be about Robin Lopez!)

below LA's odds

I can't see them beating dallas in a playoff scenario. They'd face dallas and LA. not happening

If the Suns make it to the finals, imagine how this looks for D'Antoni and Marion.

I agree with everyone here, if Lopez comes back, we can make a push to get to the finals.
Also, I think it would be very ironic.

Still like Dallas' chances over Phoenix right now but it's possible. Really outside of OKC and Portland I think any team can come out of the West at this point. I'm just amazed at how wide open the West is right now especially considering how well the Lakers started off this season.

If we didn't have that poor stretch in December we would have been the #1 seed.

But of course it is just our luck that Robin Lopez is out just before the playoffs when he was a real presence for us on both ends on the floor but especially defensively.

Against Portland- 70% they win
Against- Dallas- 50% they win
Against LA- 30% they win

Total = 10%

If they had a 50% shot at winning every series, they'd have a 12.5% chance of winning the west. I'd say they have less of a shot than that, I really do not like their chances vs. the Lakers (or a number of other top teams), so I'll go with "unlikely" (less than 10%).

slim to none, but good luck to them. hope they do well. I think they'd max out at the WCF's, that's their peak IMO. Probs second round exit though depending who they play.

Obviously with Roy out they will beat the Blazers but I would bet they are going to lose in the 2nd round. Both the Spurs and Mavs give them problems. The same issues remain with the Suns, defense at point guard and in the paint.

I think the Mavs having homecourt would give them the advantage over the Suns.
