Free agent center Brendan Haywood and his agent are aiming for a contract with an annual salary around $10 million. Their rationale is simple: in the 2009-10 season, no less than 14 starting centers in the NBA had salaries of at least $10 million. And so if one were to consider Haywood to be an above average starting center, then he would have to be paid accordingly.

If Haywood gets paid $10 million... would people still be calling him "over" paid? Or are people just "over" using the word overpaid?

Yes. Quality big men are hard to find in the league and he is one the better one in free agency this year.

No. He's not. Simple as that. List the other starting centre, and more than half of them probably won't be worth it either.

under normal circumstances he is worth 8-10 mil and definitely an average to above average C.. This summer he should definitely get 10 or above since everyone is overpaying

If I was given $10 million, I can think of a better things to spend it on than Brendan Haywood. I don't care how big he is.

Yes he is. Big men are a rarity in the NBA, he plays D and has a decent game all around. If you are better then him you are worth more, if you are worst then him you are worth less.

Example
Dampier, Dalembert, Chandler, Curry are worst then him, all got better deals.

I would say he's worth 8-9 million. Y'all may not feel that way now, but that's because Carlisle is ridiculous.

That's one way to look at it, but answer this, how many of these player would've been waived right now if their teams were given the choice of waiving them for free.

Unproven bigs are getting 7-8, a proven big deserves 10.

Now the number of years is the big issue with Haywood.

Yup. I like Bynum however the only thing Bynum has over him is youth. Haywood is a defensive Center who can also score. Bynum has a nice offensive game however his D is not good and his injuries are a huge concern and his offense is not that much better than Haywoods.

I would give him 4/40. However since Drew Gooden got that nice contract that inflates his value to about 4/60. Now he is not worth that.

No. 8 million should be his value. 10 million would be what you'd expect to be the "normally overpaid" rate. However, this offseason has pretty much destroyed even that notion. The current market suggests that "his worth" is really 15 million.

Haywood would take 10 mil a year to play with dwade and bosh i miami! (hopefully)

Sounds a lot more reasonable compared to JJ and Gay's contract offers. I guessed he would be aiming for that much based on the shortage of big men in the league.
