Why are Home Teams Wearing Away Jerseys?

Not sure if this is something some of the teams are doing just for opening night, but the Hornets, Cavs and Nets are wearing their away jerseys. Just wondering if someone might know why?

I like it.
I have always had the idea that home teams should rock their colors and the away team should wear plain white or what not.
But that may just be me.

The last time this happened it was because the home team wanted to wear an alternate jersey and the color was too close to the away team's away jersey, so they had the visiting team wear their home colors.

I highly agree, not wearing your colors at home makes no sense to me. Take a Rockets game. Court is colored red, crowd is wearing red, and the red team is the Bulls, Heat, Nets, Pistons, Raptors, Clippers, Blazers, Bucks, Hawks, Cavs, or Sixers...
Actually I don't understand why teams just can't wear their colors all the time. Besides when the colors are similar of course, but then that's when they break out the away/alternate jerseys

Yeaaa. Something like this happened last year in the playoffs I think, I hope someone can get the teams right. The whole crowd was rockin their primary color. The home team was wearing white, and of course the away team happened to be wearing that color... so it looked like the crowd was reppin the away team.
Horrible planning. That only really works with the Lakers' gold, since it's damn bright and it's the home jersey, but the thing is most Lakers fans are too "cool" to put on a shirt for unity's sake.

It's all about marketing. Seeing your colours versus white does nothing for the larger marketing of the sport where you get to see 29 other teams colours come in and say "hey that's a cool jersey, I'll buy one."
When home teams wear their away jerseys it's just to debut a new away jersey to the hometown fans. The practice started in the mid-90s I think when the Bulls debuted their black uniforms and the Knicks introduced their black and orange stripe uniforms.
