perplexing... this dude on espn just said the jazz won the dwill trade because they got favors, he also went on to elaborate that favors would be the #1 pick in this years draft... some of the most bold and absurd statements ive heard in a long while...

Step 1: Stop watching ESPN.

This draft projeccts to be one of the worst of all time. Favors was 3rd in last years draft, which was above average.

Favors probably would be first this year.

This year's draft is terrible, no sure fire number 1 so given his upside he would go number 1.

Step 2. Look up the definition to potential.

This draft is so underrated its crazy. Its on a similar level to last years, better than the 05, 06, 09 drafts.

To state that the Jazz won the trade would insinuate that Favors will be better than Williams one day, as most people already know what kind of player Harris is (an above average PG) as he has already probably reached his prime. I'm not sure I buy that. I wish Favors all the best as I saw what he did in a Nets uniform and he has a good ceiling of potential, but there is nothing shown after his current play to lead anyone to believe that he will become one of the best players in his position, let alone the NBA. He is of course extremely young so I'm not going to imply that he can't eventually become a good or even great player, but its impossible to look at what he's done right now, along with his college career, and make the claim that this ESPN analyst did.

There are a lot of other factors that go into it then just D-Will vs Favors. What if you guys don't even keep him in 2 years? Even if Favors doesn't reach D-will's level, you guys will end up having neither of them.

True, yes. And that was the risk of the gamble. Along with the reward of having someone at the caliber of Deron Williams, arguably the best PG in the NBA, for half the price of what it would have cost them to get Carmelo Anthony. I would take this chance knowingly any day. Its up to Nets management to convince Williams that he is a pivotal piece of this team's future for many years to come. From the press conference, it looks as if D-Will has bought into King's and Prokhorov's vision of what this franchise will be when they open the arena in Brooklyn. Prokhorov has time to build a team around Williams, or at least show that they are heading in the right direction. Williams will help immensely in selling this franchise. Similar to how Jason Kidd helped to singlehandedly rebuild the Nets for two Finals runs.

What was the cost going to be for Carmelo Anthony??

I honestly hope D-will stays a net, because I think I like him on that team, but you have to wonder if he won't end up Carmelo-ing the Nets now instead of the Jazz. The real winner of this trade will be what the Jazz got for trading D-will vs what the Nets get for trading him. Because if the Nets do trade him to like Dallas, or Clipps and get a better package then everyone will know Utah jumped the gun.

The cost for Melo was going to be 2 more 1st rounders rumored to be the Houston pick and our 2012 pick likely unprotected, Anthony Morrow and although Troy Murphy's contract was outgoing we weren't even getting back very serviceable players, just Balkman and Shelden Williams IIRC.

The main pieces were still pretty much the same.

Thing I would say is Deron is the MUCH better player, will attract another star and isn't a knucklehead, plus his new contract will be determined by the new CBA.

It's not. It's just what GMs/writers say to cover their own ass when the f*ck up the picks/analysis.

What's so funny? Monroe has been a stud for the Pistons so far.
