1999: Allen Iverson Murders the the Orlando Magic!!!!

Post#1 » by God MC » Thu May 19, 2011 5:53 pm

Some of the hate I see for AI is ridic man. I do admit some of the criticism he receives is well deserved, his me & selfish attitude did become a detriment his own career. But the thing is this, after watching Kobe with his I'm Still a Bad **** campaign of this yr, when he has clearly declined but refuses to dump the ball back to Gasol or Bynum once they establish position is just as selfish and dillusional as Iversons attitude with Detroit and Memphis. This isn't a Kobe vs AI thread, i used Kobe's season this yr as a comparison. All these great players cant come to grip with reality when their game slips, its part of their makeup to be Alpha Dogs. They believe they can do all, accomplish all and take on all comers.

Now that I got that off my chest. I want to take yall back to when AI first arrived to the playoffs and the way he surgically killed the Orlando Magic by making every big bucket, and playing great stiflign help defense.

This was when he finally arrived, and I feel he put a big gap between himself and the others of the 1996 draft class.

Am I the only Sixers fan, who felt like our franchise went to complete **** once Pat Croce was out of the organization. I know he wanted Ed Snyder's position feeling that Ed would step down for him.

Hard to remember this, since it was 1999 and I was just starting to follow the NBA. But AI was a beast against Orlando, Broke the NBA playoff record for most steals in a game (10).

I doubt it.. Ima Knicks Fan, But I agree, once Pat Croce left, there were so many horrible decisions made...Pat Croce seemed to understand Basketball better than Snyder. Once Croce left, Philly went on a decline..Smh.

It aggitates me when I hear the riducule AI Gets..Some of it is deserved, but alot of it is BS..For one he never fit the mold as the Face of the league the way they wanted him too, so that was always an issue and Bias the NBA had towards him, but once hecontinued to fill seats and raise ratings they in a sense accepted him..The one comment I disagree when it comes to AI is that he was the most selfish player etc...He was actually no selfish than Kobe or a Young MJ, the only difference is those players got great players put around them, won titles so that label was removed...

As far as him being stubborn and not coming off the bench, he couldve handled that better, but in all honesty I agree with him..Stuckey should have not been starting..Det. backcourt should have been AI and Rip, that wouldve ended all the drama, But Dumars traded AI, for his expiring contract, and AI was under the impression that he was trying to win A Ring,, so I can understand his frustration..Coming off the Bench for Memphis, For Mike Conley who at that point hadnt even proved he could be a good pg in the league..C'mon Man.

Iverson was a beast in his prime. Had he not been so arrogant, he could have been a great scoring role player for a contending team. He was able to make the Finals with a **** lineup though.
