Is it time for the Thunder to trade Westbrook?

He is clearly not the player they need. They need a real PG who can distribute and more importantly play smart and controlled basketball. He has too much talent on his team to play as out of control as he does. He is costing the Thunder this series.

He's 22. He's going through a huge learning process right now, and at the worst time possible, but he's still just 22. If this won't help him get better, then nothing will, and then you talk about trading him.

No.
22 years old
One of the most talented players in the NBA
Willingness to improve
Elite potential
2nd team All NBA
Great offensive and defensive potential.
People keep talking about this trade of Westbrook but for who?
No one does what Westbrook can do for OKC in the NBA at PG.
They have a 6'10 Ray Allen and three other guys on offense that leave a lot to be desired. They need to start Harden since they traded Green for Perkins. Their offense is easy to defend even if Durant and Westbrook are almost impossible to defend.
CP3- He's injury prone and Westbrook plays better defense. CP3 isn't making them that much better, they don't have the high IQ players CP3 needs outside of Durant.
Deron- He's better but Westbrook is cheaper and younger.
Rose- He's A.I. 2.0
The rest isn't as good.

One bad series means OKC should trade a second team all NBA player? And who exactly is this true PG they can get for him?
Westbrook is really young and one of the best PG's in the league. They need to let him have some growing pains and not dump him at the first sign of trouble.

I would trade him for Dwight Howard but that's it.

They should make him the centerpiece of an offer for Howard.

Actually, if Dwight must go, that would be a decent piece. I doubt Dwight wants to play in a small market like OKC at this point in his career.

Not at all. Just talk to him and ask him to be more of a team player.

That's the issue. He really wants to be in LA over anything. But Westbrook and Durant is like 23 and 22 and are in the WCF with a young Ibaka and Harden. These guys are like 24 and under. What more can you say?

in the internet age, small markets dont mean much anymore. Durant/Howard would be sick.

Thunder should trade Westbrook about as much as the Heat should trade Bosh.

its clear that these kinds of threads are remarkably overblown and shortsighted. it's a good thing nba teams aren't as kneejerk as fans. the series is 2-1, not 3-0. second team all nba, 20ppg scorer (with 3 other non-scorers he should be trying to get/give more shots to?...lmao). westbrook's a helluva player who's just learning how to be a GREAT pg. he's already a damn good one.
what it's time for is for these kinds of threads to be abolished with impunity.

You are right, small markets never meant much, hence endorsement money and opportunities being far less for athletes that play in those small markets.

Ive been saying trade him for the longest time because hes not a true point guard...the offense should be run through durant, westbrook is such a chucker its hilarious to watch sometimes, if i was okc i really consider trading him and perkins to orlando for dwight howard, build around kd and howard, u already have harden a nice guard piece, have cap space for possibly chris paul or deron williams if not maynor is a good enough fit to make good things happen

Yep.
Trading him for just anyone wouldn't be worth it, but Howard is pretty much the best player you can pair with Durant. With ORL's struggles this season and their lack of flexibility to improve going forward, the Howard option simply MUST be explored if you are OKC.
I think they could make a push without Westbrook by involving basically all of their good young players. That wouldn't be good though because 1) it'd create holes elsewhere, but more importantly 2) I have a hard time picturing RWB being happy as a third option.
Offering Westbrook as the centerpiece is much better because it would allow them to retain one of Harden/Ibaka and Mayor is fully capable (IMO) of starting at PG on a team with both Durant and Howard. If you could get a deal like Westbrook, Perkins, one of Harden/Ibaka, and a couple picks for Dwight/filler, and Dwight would sign an extension, OKC would come out a huge, huge winner.
But of course, all of this is contingent on Dwight willing to stay in OKC...

What the Thunder need is a better coach. Their offensive sets are too simplistic and they go through stretches where they don't even run an offense where too many of Westbrooks teammates are standing and watching. even Durant at times seems too tired to run off screens so he just stands. Westbrook does take a bad shot at times, but he's been taking a lot more in these playoffs because there's no other option. If Perkins doesn't want the ball, Thabo is hiding from the ball, Ibaka is standing and watching and Durant is too tired to break free what the hell else is Westbrook supposed to do? Plus Perkins and Ibaka have picked up this bad habit of setting lazy screens. Too many people are just seeing the end result, but you need to see the crappy offensive sets that lead to the bad shots. When there is no off the ball movement what is Westbrook supposed to do?

You trade him now, when his value is high, to a team who needs a franchise player. In return, you get perfect complimentary pieces for Durant.
