Kobe Shall Pass the Torch Too...

Today I went to a Kobe Tour in Seoul, Korea and one of the fan's questions were who will surpass him.
The whole stadium was screaming the obvious choices of Rose, Wade, Lebron, Howard however Kobe answered with the New York Knick's Carmelo Anthony. I know that it's Korea, and no one really knows much about the NBA, or basketball in general, but the reaction of the crowd was shock. Honestly, so was I. Kobe's reason for Melo becoming his succesor was Melo's offensive versatility. However, will Kobe's theory be right and after he retires will the torch end up being passed on to Melo?

Also, the tour was amazing. Although I know that Kobe doesn't really try, he totally failed a pass off the rebound for a dunk, completely missed a reverse, and got hardcore pumpfaked by a 14 year old.

none of the above. PLayers like MJ and Kobe are rare, we could go years without on the league once Kobe is gone.

I agree with him... I mean who thought Dirk or Nash etc.. would get better with age..It's all about using important skills others don't have to prolong your career.. Let's see if Wade and Lebron outlast Melo production wise over the years..You all may be surprised to see Melo out in front in a few years..Not so out of the realm of possibility!

Also shows the respect for the game Kobe has because of Melo's skillset..Let's see how this plays out

agreed, but most people dont understand that. he will be appreciated when hes gone though. back to the question, well he's good friends with melo so the answer is personal preference i guess. imo Wade and Lebron are too established in the league to pass the torch to them, they are also established superstars. The obvious answer is Rose or Durant

I thought that happened 3 years ago when he was the best player in the league. He's clearly not been the best player in the league for the last three seasons.

I have no idea what torch Kobe actually has that he'd have to pass on. Best team was taken from him by Dirk and Best Player has long since gone to LeBron.

Melo, he's the only one with an advanced enough offensive skill set but I voted for Dwight Howard

There isn't anyone in the league today that can lift that torch. As these modern day superstars age, people will realize how great Kobe was. I don't think anyone squeezed more out of their talents than Kobe. He made the most with what he had. These young guys seem more interested in having fun than reaching their full potential.

I have no idea how he's gonna get much better..His stats wouldn't increase much even with better all around skills.

If he gets a post game and makes his midrange better. I could actually see him averaging 35-39 ppg in a season. But if he can bulk up to like 240-245, the NBA will see the next Jordan.

This is exactly what people say about LBJ. If he can get a post game....if he can get a better midrange game...if if if. I'll believe it when I see it. KD is a good shooter but I'm not going to even begin to mention him with Jordan until he actually adds those facets to his game. Until he does, all of the "ifs" are just fantasy until KD makes them a reality.

i don't really see anybody doing it. these guys today have proven to not have the same toughness. people can complain and call him overrated but he has delivered. until other guys can do whathe does individually and team wise i don't think this is even up for debate. he lost this year but i have to see what happens in his next season back before i judge.
