http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... ion_102011Kevin Martin(notes), Houston Rockets guard: “Mediation didn’t work, so I think us players and owners should go work a 9-to-5 job in this tough economy. Then we might realize what’s really fair, and respect the game, along with the opportunities we have, a little more.”

probably applies more to players than owners, don't think many owners consider their NBA franchise their primary occupation and/or main source of income.

Martin threw the owners into his quote just to keep the union off his butt.

Mid level players that aren't receiving the max are evidently getting rattled.

It actually applies more to the owners. Middle-age corporate fat cats need some perspective asap.
On the other hand you've got the players, many who are simply using the only tangible skill they maintain a nice living standard yrs after they've retired from the NBA. I don't blame them for what they're doing.

Owners are usually grizzled hard working "white collar" guys who worked their asses off and buried more than a few bodies to get where they are. Doubtful they are always on their yachts. These guys work more than 9 to 5. But sure they don't work with their hands and they exploit the system when they can.

"White collar" usually constitutes a smart criminal, at least in my mind. Owner's are exactly that, white collar thieves trying to steal money from their employees. It's similar to Wall Street insider trading sh*t, and this bad faith "negotiation" should not be tolerated.

White collar just means anyone in an office type job. Blue collar is more your manual laborer types - cleaners, factory workers etc. Associating it with a smart criminal just shows that your education came via TV rather than school.

Please explain how any of this is similar to insider trading?
I think it's interesting the pro players side shows solidarity for the players as if they are an underpaid and overworked blue collar group that'd being taken advantage of by the evil white collar owners who just sit on their asses all day collecting checks. As if the players are not in the top 1% themselves. Please. Both sides are negotiating to put more $ in their own pockets, period.
